quest item weight: Today I learned...
So I was right on the edge of overweight when I turned in the Eldergleam quest. After I turned in the quest I was suddenly ten pounds over. After several reloads i realized 10 pounds is exactly the weight of Nettlebane.

Seems that quest items have weight, but don't count against your carry weight. So after turning in the quest, nettlebane is no longer a quest item so you instantly "gain" 10 pounds of carry weight, and you can then remove it from your inventory (which you can't of course before finishing the quest).

ALSO: nettlebane is heavy as HECK for a dagger. LOL

Correct. A quest item has no weight, even if it lists one. If it ceases to be a quest item, the items weight gets applied to your encumbrance.
