Skyborn altar CTD
the moment the dragon lands on skyborn altar i just CTD, i got to kill him *once* but then it CTD'ed after

not a singular clue what or why, i dont have a quest to go there im just going there since i saw it nearby and went "eh why not"

i have mods but none of them have caused an issue up till this point with crashing

i tried alternate start to see if its CTDs always, but no it seems related to the dragon, somehow

my PC is well more then enough to run the game so it means the devs went and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up this place like they did the dawnstar musuem is my guess so far

anyone have any ideas?

Well … this CTD doesn’t happen in the vanilla game … therefore it’s probably a mod causing it.
You should list the mods you’re using o see if anyone can see a problem.

Since you have the issue in one specific place, it is easy to test for. And actual Crash logs (NOT Papyrus logs, which only are used to check how scripts are running), unless a person knows how to read them (and often even if they do) are not worth the time and effort - and often are not that big a help. The best way to troubleshoot is by following this general outline:
Troubleshooting Your Load Order

And DO post your sorted load order - that is essential, as there are many people here who are very familiar with many mods and may be able to tell by looking which mod is potentially problematic (though more likely than not you will have to troubleshoot it yourself, anyway). I should caution, if it is an extremely large build, more than a couple of hundred mods, then you are on your own - unless a person can do basic troubleshooting themselves, they should not be making a large build. Not saying this is you, but more a word of advice to any others who may read this.

1- Disable half your mod list, see if it crashes.
2- If it doesn't, re enable half of the mods you disabled, see if it crashes.
3- If it doesn't, re enable half of what's left, keep going until you can narrow down the mod causing the crash.
4- Go to the Nexus page of the mod causing the issue, realize you forgot to install a requirement or read the incompatibility list, or didn't pay attention to the load order or forgot check the 'Mods requiring this mod' drop down for patches to other mods you might have.
5- Follow the steps to fix it, live and learn.

"it must be your fault" is not a way to give advice friend

i use loot to sort the mod order so im not entirely sure what the actual load order is
given its 170 plug ins long im not honestly sure how to sort that, if you have a suggestion tell me but ill list the mods im using for now, and send a sorted list after

im on anni edition so i have most all the creation club stuff (too much to list) just incase that matters

unofficial skyrim special edition patch
legacy of the dragonborn
sunder and wrathguard vault fix
legacy of the dragonborn creation club patch hub
legacy of the dragonborn patches (official)
fossil mining
fish hatchery add-on for legacy of the dragonborn
helgen reborn
simple two handed rebalance
ish's respec mod
achievement mods enabler

far as ive checked i have every requirement needed, so it isnt that either, otherwise id be having more then just a crash at skyborn
smr1957 May 3, 2023 @ 12:49pm
The problem is, that sometimes it can be a mod that is entirely unrelated to the location in question or not apparently having anything to do with the issue. Which is why we always ask for an entire sorted load order (because the sorting of the mods and the order they load is important as well).

Just take your time - I know it is frustrating and that you want to fix this and get back into playing - but on occasion when the issue is not that apparent, it may take a little while to figure out, but usually - eventually - things do get fixed.

Also, did you ever remove a mod and continue paying without rolling back to a save made before the removed mod was installed? That is a major do not do, and can cause an issue such as this. If you did, refer to this post:

Another thing you can do first (if you haven't already) is to validate the Master files:

How to verify integrity of game cache by Ilja -
https://steamcommunity.com/app/489830/discussions/0/1843493219431033688/

Often fixes many issues - and even if it doesn't, it is easy and quick to do - and eliminates the possibility of something in the Masters being the cause.

It is almost always your fault. Don't worry, I screw up all the time too when making load orders, and I've been modding Skyrim since the game released in 2011.

Either way, do the steps I posted and you'll find out which mod is causing the issue. Easier to work from there.

well from what im reading, even if a mod is causing an issue, given that i know 100% i have everything set up right and load ordered correctly

i cant remove it without starting a new game so, honestly im just gonna give up here and never go to the altar ever again
as im not restarting, period, that would be around 700 items id need to recollect for the musuem, and regrinding alot of skills to above 80
Black Album May 3, 2023 @ 2:26pm
Yep ... I hate to be the one to say it ... but sometimes the best way forward is to just ignore it and move on.
There's plenty of other things to do and if it's just one glitch then forget about it.
smr1957 May 3, 2023 @ 2:43pm
As BA said. If it is only that, in that one specific place, then just move on - there are plenty of other things to do. Time enough to fix it if and when you start a new game or do a new build.

Since it is a radiant quest location, if you ever get a radiant quest that sends you there, just reload a save from before you got the latest quest to go there and hopefully you will get sent to a different place.

Good luck and enjoy!

You can remove mods just fine. Only script heavy mods will throw errors, which you can use resaver to fix.

Loot sorting is a good start to sorting most mods, but it's not reliable. You will still need to do a bit of manual adjusting on the priority list.
Again, your crash can most likely be fixed by finding out which mod causes the issue, then fixing the priority/downloading a patch/make sure you're not missing any requirements.

170 mods is a lot of mods for you to be certain that "everything is right". That many amount of mods usually require some extensive playtesting and some fiddling with the load order to get it to run 95% fine.
