Skyrim Whiterun Should Of Been Bigger?
For what Whiterun is? i think it should of been bigger? theres not many places
to live there, when we consider how many people live there seems was done fast
to build? should Whiterun be big as imperial city?
So do people think other citys etc are right size or should of been bigger?

Found new unreal whiterun

All locations are usually made far smaller than what they should be. Not just in this game, but in Fallout as well. As well as most other games from most other companies. A number of computers now have issues with the size of the locations, let alone the kind of issues that a far larger inhabatited area would have. And consoles aren't as good as a good comupter, and since most games are being made for both consoles and PC now you have to design things to function on the largest chunk of PCs/consoles being used.

And no, Whiterun (a hold capital and trade hub), despite being in an important place, should not be nearly as big as the Imperial City (the capital of an entire empire).

in almost every game, towns and cities are portrayed MUCH smaller than they would actually be.
Even when you go and look at simulations that deal specifically with such things as cities and their infrastructure, games that are revolving around public transport or freight logistics (for example Transport Fever 2), or those that simulate cities in general (such as Cities Skylines) can't actually render every person, building, car etc.. that a city would have. Computers simply aren't powerful enough to do that.
Many simulate it where 1 rendered person actually counts as 4+ people to cut down on load.

Same applies in games like this.. Whiterun would probably have a few thousand people, if not more. Solitude certainly would, but actually having 1000+ people in whiterun alone, along with all the buildings, items and scenery around, would have been impossible on an Xbox 360...

The imperial city in Oblivion is large, but there's not that many people in it to call it a city. The amount of people in that game would fill a small village at best.
The imperial city would have thousands of people living there, with just as many houses...
Best example of the downscale I think are the steps to High Hrothgar. It is suppose to be 7,000 steps, but it is actually only about 700, so about 1/10th scale of what it actually should be.

So just imagine all the cities are 10 times bigger than shown in game.

I would like more wilderness, spacing between settlements. I want to get lost for days. I want journey's between places to be DISTANT.

Now that's something i can fully agree with!

I run everywhere without fast travel, but it still feels like things are too close together...
I had this fantasy one time of going through through the ESMs and reducing EVERYTHING to 0.1 in scale so that the world (Land would be the same size but everything else would be tiny) but it wouldn't work because of things like camera height and the fact that it was an INSANE idea.

Compatibility would be non existent.
Well, the way I increase the size of the map is by playing a walking game. I initially used Walk Faster - https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/15158 , but I then tweaked it so that walking speed was even slightly faster than that (though not much) - but at least it seems like you are walking, and not using a walker - LOL! I also use Cardio SE - More Realistic Fatigue - https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/13797 so that when running I get tired out and, after a while, will be forced to walk. I mean, unless you're Forrest Gump, who the heck runs all the time?

In this way (using the default time scale of 20), to get from Riften to Solitude will take - with no interruptions - a solid 7 days of walking, with breaks for camping overnight along the way. With interruptions - fighting, etc - it can take closer to ten days. Makes for a more realistic travel experience as far as I am concerned.

Whiterun still feels like the biggest city in this game because it's so open. you can see the plains all around and upper levels and castle at once. Solitude literally feels like a single street and windhelm is too boxy with walls obstructing your view, i really dislike how they designed those two.
Dunno bout nothin else, but if the skyrim world actully existed, WWhiterun is where i could feel right at home.
yeah i feel like all these cities and villages should've been at least 4-5x bigger than how they're depicted in-game
Well don't forget the game is from 2011 so there were technical limitations especially with the 32 bit game engine. That said there are mods that expand the main cities expenationally.

If every town and city was built to realistic scale, you would have to make the province at least twenty times as big, meaning there would be a lot of space t get lost in, and the game would take years to play (most of it looking for the places the quests take place in)

Yeah exactly, also they had to keep in mind limits of PS3/X360
white run is actually a castle with a town built around it. it is somewhat accurate with its wall and necessities insides well the surrounding farmlands there would be more housing outside where during raids or whatever everyone would try to run inside the walls.

in almost every game...
I don't recall many examples among open world games. Would like to see some.
Witcher games have realistic scale. Kingdom Come Deliverance, too. Gothic series (probably).

GTA doesn't but that's all I can remember.

Funnily enough 1996 Daggerfall has realistic scale

Making a whole province is a gimmick though, they don't have to do that.
