SOLVED "Unable to Sync" to cloud no matter what I do!
SOLVED, see further below for solution.

Original post:
So I recently got Skyrim SE on my pc since I love the game and it's been a while since I last played it (back on console). Problem is, since it downloaded it won't sync to cloud - all my other games are fine, it's just this one that has troubles. It's been a few days since I downloaded it and I've tried restarting things and even dug through old threads and posts to look at other solutions.

One particular idea I found and tried was this, posted by JulQri Aug-02-2012.
"Verify your game data. This can be done by going to Skyrim in your games, clicking right mouse button on it, selecting Properties - Local Files - Verify Integrity of Game Cache. This will check the game data and download missing files. Restart Steam."

Unfortunately this also didn't work. I'm curious as to why it's the only game in my library that won't sync... every time I restart the sync it loads for a few minutes and then says "Unable to Sync" - it never even starts uploading!

Also, forgive me for this stupid question but I feel like I'm going insane - by 'restarting' Steam, does that mean to just exit it and then open it back up? Or is there an ACTUAL restart/refresh button somewhere that I've completely missed?

The game itself starts and runs fine, but I'd really like to have it backed up... as I've had multiple issues with this pc needing to be fixed (unrelated issues) and I'd hate to loose my save if something went terribly wrong one day.

I'm open to any suggestions and ideas - please keep in mind I am not that tech smart, the world of pc is still rather new to me. :luv:

-----------------------------------------------

Solved immediately with the help of the amazing Ilja when I posted the issue to the 'Old Farts' Coffee House' Thread (page 6544). Thanks so much Ilja!! :D

Steam client > Right-click the game.
Properties > General > Steam Cloud.

For me, the box was already ticked - I just unticked and ticked it again, and then closed out of Steam. Opened it back up and got it to retry Syncing again. After that it worked!

For any potential future readers, it was pointed out by both Ilja and the user alexander_dougherty that copying key saves to an external USB or harddrive is honestly the best option.

As alexander_dougherty stated in reply to my original question for help:
"Get yourself a removable USB drive, even if it's just a pen drive.
Cloud saves of any sort and Skyrim do not play well together, Skyrim just isn't programmed to synchronise very well, so best advice is to copy saves onto a USB Drive and rely on that instead."

Ilja also stated similar in their solution:
"Cloud is a bit troublesome. I do not personally use it. I am instead copying key saves to my external, because sometimes cloud has uploaded entirely wrong save files to my game folder."

Skyrim doesn't work well with Cloud saves, of any sort, best advice disable them.
Then get yourself a USB Drive, it doesn't have to be a full drive, a pen drive will do just fine, and copy your saves onto that as backup.

Thanks for the help!! I'll be definitely looking into doing that - how would I be able to go about doing that? I saw that Ilja said they do the same but I have no idea how to actually go about copying save files to an external drive or USB

The game saves are usually in Users, your user name, saved games, you just highlight them click on copy, then go to the USB Drive, and paste them into the drive (or the folder in the drive you have for them)

All good points.

And - Yes saves for this game can be found here
C:\Users\YourUserName\Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition\Saves

Backing them up is indeed useful

I myself, like Ilja, do not use the Cloud saves for this game. I use them for other games but not for Skyrim SE. But they are backed up.
