Killing Narfi

Hi. Just gotta get this off my chest. Why do I gotta ghost this guy? Really don't wanna do it but progress is halted if not. Damn this DB quest line.

Because someone wants him dead. The Brotherhood doesn't care why someone needs to die, just that someone else wants them to. So they don't ask. If I had to make a guess, its because he is still living in the ruins of his family home, and someone else wants that land. They can't get it until he gives it up or dies.

Or maybe someone just doesn't like a crazy beggar hanging around. Could be someone in town killed his sister (maybe accidentily) and doesn't like that Narfi is asking people to find her. Maybe Narfi stumbled onto Wilhelms mead smuggling, and someone wants to make sure he doesn't talk.

Or maybe someone is just sending random assassins after people. After all, assassins are sent after you. Even if you haven't done anything to anyone, or progressed to finding out you are the Dragonborn. (The random assassin attacks just start at level 6, there are no other requirements to cause them.)

You're having issues with the first set of contracts? How you gonna handle the even more morally questionable ones, like Vittoria for example? Maybe assassin/Sithis devotee was the wrong choice for you.

Truth be told I only went there to complete the words of power. Never wanted to join them. Already the Leader of the Companions. Can't kill Astrid. I tried but she just won't die. Kodlak Whitemane already fixed. Then I talked to that Redguard & got the contract. Totally forgot about this hit on Narfi. All the years played TES V only played out the DB once. All the way to Dawnstar. Always liked Cicero's evil laugh. Fark why won't any one put a contract on Maven? Now that I would really relish. Or Delphine? I'd do that for free.

Kinda feel bad for the dude. Just found the remains of his sister & informed him before the contract. Guess life sucks in Skyrim too. Poor fella.

You could destroy them If you kill Astrid in the abandoned shack a new quest opens up. I mostly take that option ok you'll missing out on some nice stuff, but it's an option.

You can get inside without joining them. If you have a save from before the shack you could reload.

Maven has ties to the Dark Brotherhood, they won't take a contract against her, she has probably been marked several times. As for Delphine, even though we know she is awful, nobody else aside from the Thalmor would have reason to kill her, and I imagine the Thalmor would try to do it themselves.

Seriously I can do this? All the years playing & I never knew. Damn. I am too far into the game. Just about to have a showdown with Mirak. Soon as I finished this play I will do it. TQ for the info. Hands, head feet all going into the beach's sssss.

Thing is with Maven she keeps saying she got ties with DB blablaabla. I am like woman I am the DB leader. Cicero is travelling with me. You should have showed some RESPECT. Go do something useful like lick my boots or sumthing. The Thalmor should have sub the contract to me. I'd do it for free.

Follow your conscience and don't do it. To kill innocent people in a game just because it is a game is still a dark way to go.

I'm not so sure Narfi is exactly innocent. Listening to him blabber on sounds more like a guilty conscience than a doof.

"With father I said goodbye... with mother I said goodbye. Reyda leaves and Narfi can't say goodbye. Makes Narfi very, very sad. Narfi needs Reyda to say goodbye.

He killed his mother and father. His sister ran away before Narfi had the chance to "say goodbye" to her as well. She either took her own life jumping off the bridge into the waters, or it was an tragic accident as she fled her crazed brother.

Rest assured, Narfi needs to die.

You should be able to let a kill go by without recourse because everyone the DB sent to kill the dragonborn (that would be you) never killed you and even Astrid offered you a job instead of killing you herself.

Well, Skyrim's inspiration is medieval Scandinavia, so I did some digging into Norse mythology to see if it holds a reason for this particular quest. Turns out that in Norse mythology, there's two different Narfis; one of them is a son of Loki, and the other is a jotunn. Two strikes against the NPC, right there. So in light of that, and considering the usual standards for performing the Dark Sacrement, I'm guessing that someone in Ivarstead knows that Narfi's somehow directly responsible for Reyda's death, and hates Narfi for it.

I always head-canon that the dark brotherhood only takes contracts on those who "Deserve" it (In a vigilante sort of way). It's not actual canon, just how i stretch it so i can be a good / morally gray person and join them without issue. So, as mentioned above, I say Narfi killed his family.
