Ebony mail effect constantly without the armor having even been acquired
can anyone help? every save i make, i seem to have the effect from the ebony mail even though i haven't gotten that armor yet. i can't do certain questlines because each time enemies or animals get close, they get shrouded in black mist and damaged. i can't figure out whats causing this. i did use the cheat PSB to add all spells so i wonder if one of the spells or powers is doing this. i tried the code to remove the effect from the ebony mail but it claims i never had the effect from that armor. please help. can't become a werewolf if this effect attacks vilkas when sparring.

Using the PSB command caused that. This is just another reason why we tell people not to use the console as a cheat (not that you want to hear that now).

The only possibility of removing it is if you have the Unofficial Patch installed (and you should, as it fixes literally thousands of bugs, some of them game breaking) - https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/266 ; there should be a book - USSEP Unwanted Effects Remover - in the Temple of Kynareth in Whiterun. Look for the unwanted effects removal book on one of the bookshelves.

Alternately, you can use player.additem xx0B1985 1
Where xx is the position in your load order of the Unofficial Patch (just replace the xx with the position number). That will place the book in your inventory.

If that does not work, the only option is to go back to a save made before you used the PSB command (not that that is something you want to hear, either). We've seen this exact issue before caused by using that command - hopefully the remove spell book from USSEP will work.

Good luck!

If the USSEP Book can remove specific effects from a character, why can't console commands also remove the effect?

Because you need to know the exact code for it to work via the console which adds another layer of danger. The book uses some code to identify and remove the correct effect. Something you can't do with the console alone. The console is extremely powerful and it can permanently damage your save beyond the ability to repair it so I would advise against experimenting.

The effect is a feature of this piece of armor. If you don't like it, use the regular ebony armor. switch armor when fighting Vilkas. I never used to like it, but it's great for underwater swimming since it will kill off those slaughterfish, assuming your health is strong enough. It's less effective with mudcrabs.

You need to read better. He doesn't have the armor at all. He used the console to add all spells to his character. However, spells aren't just the things you cast. All special effects are spells in the game. So he got the effects of the armor without ever having the armor.

And this is another reminder why we say that the console is a DEVELOPMENT tool not to be lightly used by players. Yes they didn't block the console, but a bit of critical thinking doesn't harm more like should I not can I.

Omg, that's what he did? So he's constantly riding special mounts too, all at same time, now? (those are spells too)
