Problems with the Populated Skyrim Civil War SE Edition mod for the Anniversary Edition on Steam
Hi.

I installed this mod in order to make Skyrim's civil war feel more like a true civil war rather than half a dozen dudes banging their swords at one another.

I joined the Imperial side and I just finished off that one bandit camp that Rikke asks u to destroy.

Sometimes, I see both Imperial and Stormcloak patrols facing one another and I obviously side with the Imperials in that skirmish. The problem is that at the end of it, they just suddenly start attacking me for no reason.

Is this a problem with the mod itself? Does it also happen in vanilla Skyrim? Is there something that I can do so that the Imperials won't attack me for no reason after helping them in their skirmish?

For more context, I have Lydia as my follower and Gogh as my pet. I try not to hit the Imperial soldiers in that fight so that they won't try to kill me afterwards, to no avail. Dunno if the reason as to why the Imperials start attacking me was due to my companions having friendly fired some of the soldiers because I certainly didn't.

I don’t use the mod so I can only guess about what could be happening.

I imagine either you or your companion accidentally hit an imperial, or for some reason the Imps added by the mod don’t actually recognize you as an ally and only see that you murdered a bunch of guys and regard you as hostile.

Looking at the mod’s page and the comments section - it’s an old and abandoned mod that has issues aplenty.

As far as the game is concerned, since neither side is hostile to your player character when you come upon the scene, your intervention is the same as when you attack any non-hostile NPC in the game - you are attacking a non-hostile NPC and are thus breaking the law and committing murder, and, as such, you will be attacked (as well as probably incur a bounty). So, it is just the game mechanics at work. When you come upon such a scene, unless the game indicates that one party or the other is actively hostile, then you should not get involved in the combat - it is for show and immersion (to give the feel that there is actively a war ongoing), not for participation.
