Mage follower wont use magic, fights with fists

Is there anything to force a mage follower to actually, you know, cast the spells that they have? I downloaded some followers and have EFF installed as well, I've taught spells to this follower I have and she has some really powerful summon spells but .. she only fights with fists and heals herself even though she has Heal Other.

I don't think followers can learn new spells.

They can if you use a follower mod, there's a few of them.

They may lack the skill/level to cast them, you might have to tweak those too.

This may be it, I noticed she was casting the lower level heal spell. thanks!
