Q: Which Kids are the Best to Adopt?
Are there any advantages to adopting one kid over another?

Not really. Your conscience is the only factor.

I usually pick up kids that are sleeping on streets, or are otherwise living without proper provider. This is why I often end up with girls from Whitrun and Windhelm. I don't have heart to leave Sophie to sleep outside, in the middle of snowstorm.

Same here.
The only orphan you encounter before those two at least has a job fetching water for the local laborers and the Honorhall kids sleep indoors and usually not in chains once you kill Grelod. Sophie sleeps on stone under falling snow in the streets of a town with a serial murderer targeting women on the loose.
They all tend to pick up odd items that may be useful but I haven't noticed any significant difference between Lucia and Sophie's gifts, say, related to the backstory of selling flowers to scrounge up some food.

I adopted kids in my oldrim playthrough. Not doing it this time. They refuse to sleep in their beds and just stand beside them. Drove me crazy. I used console to delete them.
