How Do You Turn Up The Volume?
I just purchased Skyrim during the Steam Summer Sale 2023 and am playing it for the first time ever. So far it is disappointing. My chief problem is the sound. I can barely hear anything from the game and there are no Audio Options whatsoever.

How do you turn up the volume??? ALL of the sound options through Windows 11 are turned to 100% even the one that shows for Skyrim specifically yet I can barely hear anything of the game. I can hear the game just fine with headphones but I am NOT wearing headphones to play Skyrim. I want to hear the game sounds through my PC like I do with EVERY other game I own.

So, how do you turn up the volume?

Thank you in advance for any and all useful replies.

If all your system volume and game volume (now that you've found it in the menu) is maxed and still everything is too quiet, then something is wrong on your PC.

Update all drivers and then do a full reinstall of the game.

As you have Win 11, that might be a factor as not everything is fully compatible with it yet.

There is Audio menu in main menu, which opens from ESC.

Pressing ESC does nothing. Its one of the first things I did. No pop-up menu - nothing. The only "Options" option is from the launcher and the only option is to change video settings.

Pressing ESC ingame does nothing?

Well, how did you quit the game?

By clicking on the "QUIT" button and selecting "Yes." How do you quit the game?

I asked, because the Quit option is under the main menu, where Options are - including Audio options. And by default, you get there by hitting ESC.

We must have different versions of Skyrim. To quit the game from within the game I have to ALT + TAB to my desktop then right click the game icon on my taskbar and select "Close Window." I do not have any option to quit the game from within the game which is odd since when I played Oblivion back in 2006 I seem to remember it working the way you describe.

But you're right. The Quit button is on the Main Menu which is the place I expect to find a "SETTINGS" or "OPTIONS" option. My version of Skyrim does not have one.

Well then you messed up your game with mods then. Try redoing your entire mod list from scratch as that is the only way in my opinion that will solve that issue. We can't help you on that one.

To my knowledge there is no localization of the game that would change ESC-key. If there is, then that's a really rare one.

So... as said above, some mod might have removed it.

If you do not have any mods and/or weird localization, try to validate your game files through Steam.

I don't use mods in any of my games so that obviously wasn't it.

But I did FINALLY find the SETTINGS option BURIED deep inside the game under SYSTEM when pressing ESC. Who the **** decided to BURY the SETTINGS option that ******* deep inside the game??? I cannot think of any of the hundreds of video games that I have played where something so basic is hidden that deep. It BELONGS on the main menu! No one should have to start a game in order to change basic settings like Audio. FCO.

Anyway, I max'd out ALL of the AUDIO SETTINGS and I still can barely hear the game. Is Skyrim suppose to be so quiet/ muted? I have my PC speakers max'd and the volume control dial turned all the way up on my Bose and it's barely audible, None of my other video games are anywhere near as silent as Skyrim. I thought this game was suppose to be some kind of grand masterpiece or something. So far I can't get into it since I can barely hear it. And I am not going to wear headphones to play this game. I will try to figure something out but if I can't hear Skyrim I guess I won't play Skyrim.

That sounds like you didn't turn up the system volume or you have something wrong with your PC, that isn't a game issue nor our problem. If you are going to complain further the door is open for you to leave.

came for the laugh, was not disappointed.

Your door seems to work better when you use it so I'll just sit back and watch the expert at work.

As for my PC there is nothing wrong with it. It is Skyrim. I have to turn all of my sound settings down in Windows 11 for all of my other games when switching out of Skyrim otherwise I'll blow out my PC speakers and my Bose. Which I thought I did when I first quit Skyrim and launched Frostpunk. Nearly had a heart attack from being blasted the sound was so loud. The audio of Skyrim is just way too quiet even with the Audio Settings all max'd out, Windows 11 sound settings max'd and my Bose speakers turned all the way up.

So much for that.
