There is a ton to consider.
I really recommned this guide, it explains everything right from the start.

Beware: Skyrim modding requires a lot of testing, reading and checking.
I invested more time into modding until i was satisfied rather than playing the game itself.

Good luck and enjoy!
So, not really an issue.
It sounds kinda overwhelming but I just installed it a week ago (also my first time modding the game) and it was super easy. You don't need to worry about testing what mods can go together, installing things in the right location or any of the bad things about modding. Its more or less extreme modding made very simple.
It really adds a lot to the game. It changes the combat, upgrades all of the graphics, there are like 15 different choices on where to start the game, potions, crafting ect. are all changed for the better, making them useful. New spells, new items, new quests, new areas to explore, new followers, even the main story quests are changed for the better. You can still unlock achievements and it runs through steam. It even lets you change the damage multipliers in combat. At the moment Im playing where my damage given and taken are the same, so I'll die in 2 or 3 hits but so will the enemy, makes the combat a lot more fun and engaging.

Get acquainted with the game. See what you like and don't like (and maybe take notes of what you don't like). That may give you ideas what mods you might want to add to your game later on. Take it slow and don't barge into the major questlines right away.
I would advice against Nexus Collections and Wabbajacks. They may contain things you like, but maybe also contain an equal amount of things you don't like.
I could easily suggest over a hundred mods, but these would all be my personal preference and you may not like any of them.
