The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition

Migrate saves from Skyrim first edition to Skyrim anniversary
Hi,

I started playing Skyrim in 2014. Played it until I finished 71% of the game (according to the stats).
A couple of weeks ago I wanted to try if my old saves are still available under Steam, so I started the game again. And they were, but some things didn't work the way they should (e.g. couldn't mount Shadowmere).
Because it was really fun to play again, I decided to start all over again. Now I'm at level 51. Because I saw that there are two follow ups of the game (Second Edition, and Anniversary), I decided to purchase the Anniversary edition.

I wonder if its possible to continue with level 51 in the anniversary edition. Simply copying the saves to the new save directory didn't do the trick, because the game obviously retrieves the saves from the Steam cloud.
So is there another way to continue where with level 51 in Anniversary, or is it just bad luck because it isn't possible...
Please let me know...

Thnx
John

I think you meant Special Editon, not Second. Anniversary Editon is also not another version of the game, just a DLC for Special Edition.

Anyway, to answer your question yes, however only if the game was not modded. If moving the save files didn't work because of steam cloud disable it and try again.
disable cloud for the game for a good start so the saves are drawn locally. Make some random save in Anniversary edition to make sure where the files are..and check if they're actually similar to what you have from the "oldrim". If they appear in the load menu that's a good start. If they'll work..you'll know by the game crashing or not. There is a topic on reddit from 4 years ago claiming that they should work, but I'd recommend making a separate save as soon as possible after loading the old thing

You're right Rev.. Quite sloppy.. But I'm glad you understood :) I didn't apply mods on the Anniversary. I will disable the cloud and try it again (have to figure out first how to disable, but I'll figure out).
Thnx!!

Thnx for the advice. Rev suggested the same. With your additional tips, I'm confident that this should work. I'll try, and let you know..
Again, many thnx!!

It's Rez with a Z.

To disable the cloud right-click the game in your library and select properties, in the pop-up under the general tab, there is the Steam Cloud option, uncheck it.

Or if you want to get rid if it for every game in the top right, click Steam, then Settings, then Cloud, then uncheak Steam Cloud Synchronization.

Ok ReZ with a Z, you got me again. Sorry for misspelling. Just copied the save to SE saves dir, disabled cloud sync, started the game and loaded the latest save from... level 51. Then saved it, exit the game, adjusted the setting in Steam (cloud sync), resynced and started the game again. No problems at all. Can continue with level 51.
Thnx again. Glad it worked!!

No problem. If you care about achievements be aware that you won't be able to get some achievements since you can't do certain things again that the character has already done.
