"Repairing The Phial" quest, bugged Nurelion

I am trying to complete the "Repairing The Phial" quest, but I ran into an issue: Nurelion is set as an essential NPC, and cannot die at the end of the quest as intended. I have tried consulting the UESP Wiki below, and this issue is explicitly mentioned in the bugs section of the article, along with a solution: `setessential 14148 0`.

Problem is, this solution does not work and I don't know why. I cannot seem to remove the essential flag from Nurelion. I even took a screenshot. Does anyone know what am I doing wrong?

Found the most ridiculous of solutions:

1. Hand in the items to Quintus. Have the quest play out.
2. The quest will bug out at the final stage.
3. Approach Nurelion on his deathbed. Activate the console via `tilde` key, click on Nurelion(important!), and issue the following commands: `setessential 14148 0` and `set ghost 0`. Make sure that the commands worked - through `getisghost` and `isessential` - in both cases the value returned should be 0.
4. Kill Nurelion. Use any means necessary.
5. Quintus will become a foe as the result of killing Nurelion.
6. Activate the console via `tilde` key and issue the following commands: `setrelationshiprank 1B116 0` and `player.setrelationshiprank 1B116 0`, to reset the status of your relationship with Quintus after killing Nurelion.
7. Speak to Quintus and pick the 'What happened to Nurelion?' option. Pick your reward and the quest should be complete.

What a strange workaround, I can't believe it worked!

My issue began with not being able to retrieve the briar heart, I’d kill the briar heart but it wouldn’t clear the log (Take Briar Heart) after collecting the heart. I tried reverting to a save before I began the quest at no avail.

After killing the Briar Heart, and collecting the heart I used console command: SetStage MS12b 50 so that the log registered I collected the heart.

When I went back to White Phial I put in the console command: SetStage MS12b 60 to get the log entree Return to Quintus.

Dude makes the phial and takes it to Nurelion. The problem now seems to be that he is essential. After saying “Marvelous” he suddenly stands up, gets on a knee like he’s recovering from a blow, lays back in bed with the continued status saying he’s sleeping and dying. So, it doesn’t register that he dies and I can’t “officially” complete the quest.

Following the Wiki I tried console command: SetEssential 14148 0 to make it so, but my efforts failed.

Being that my quest was borked anyways, I decided to give your solution a go lol. The solution is as absurd as the bugged quest, but hey it worked!

Yea there are strange things I mean another one is if the Jarl of Markarth doesn't give you the favor quests then go to the shrine of Talos in town take the blessing and go back to the Jarl and the quest is available ... works every time
