How to prevent Creation Club automatically downloading everything

This really annoyed me after I verified the integrity of my game files only to open up the game again and find that everything on the creation club had automatically downloaded.

After a long time of searching I was able to find a solution which I want to share. This will also work if you have downloaded creation club content yourself that you wish to remove.

Please note that you will have to load up a previous save before the CC content was applied.

In your PC’s file explorer go to the following:

Steam >> steamapps >> common >> Skyrim Special Edition >> Data

In here you will find all the CC files. To avoid the hassle of trying to figure out which is which select and delete them all.

Open Skyrim again and all creation club content will be uninstalled. Just head back into creation club and redownload the ones you want manually.

By doing so you'll also delete other files which must never be deleted as files for Dragonborn, Hearthfire and Dawnguard addons and also for Fishing, Saints and Seducers, Rare Curios and Survival. If you delete at least one of them - it'll break your game completely. So never do this without exact understanding of what files are actually removable CC content.

Each creation consists from 3 files. One bsa file in the Data folder of your game, one esl OR esm file in the Data folder too and also one manifest file in the Creations folder of your game.

Just remove those 3 files for each creation you want to uninstall from the game.

Remember that it is typically not the best idea to remove content from the game midplaythrough. It often leads to problems if there were scripts in the removed content.

The solution to this is pretty simple too.

Every game in Steam has a right-click menu. Open it and find additional content tab:

And uncheck the DLC bundle. But you must do this BEFORE installing the game.

Now install the game. The CC content will never be downloaded automatically. But you still may download particular creations manually within the in-game CC menu.

Also to do this you need to own the entire Anniversary Edition DLC.

I had to click on "download everything" in order to get it to download everything

If one has that checkbox set and steam account linked to bethesda account then it will download all 70 creations automatically with the first game start right after installation/reinstallation. And there is no button to cancel it I am afraid.

So to stop this one needs to unset the checkbox before running the game for the first time right after installation/reinstallation.

Without existing link between steam and bethesda accounts nothing will be downloaded automatically too coz those files are downloaded from bethesda servers, not from Steam servers. So you will need a bethesda account. And you will need to link it to Steam coz it's Steam which has a record of ownership of the DLC.
