Custom follower refuses to function
I've scrubbed through google looking at every guide I can find, but I can't seem to find a working solution for my issue.

It's the same old story; my follower doesn't want to talk to me. All they do is mutter generic blabber dialogue when I interact with them (Huh? Yeah? Need something?).

My factions are set up correctly (-1 CurrentFollowerFaction, 0 PotentialFollowerFaction), and the player relationship is set up correctly (NPC parent to Player child Ally, disposition base set to 80). The follower exists fine and sandboxes happily around the tavern I placed them in. They use a Nord voice type, and I've even 'borrowed' (or should I say 'cannibalised') a bunch of follower dialogue from an already existing follower with the same voice type.

The version of the game I'm testing with has no other mods installed (PC Skyrim only exists for me as a test bed for the Creation Kit, I play on console). I've spent hours staring at endless object and dialogue and quest windows, and everything *should* work. My custom follower, as far as the Creation Kit files are concerned, is for all intents and purposes just another NPC.

I'm out of options, and I'm going crazy staring at these files. Please help me someone

Try to Start a New game and see if the Follower will still have any problems. If it does then the said mod was not installed correctly or you are lacking the other required files that the mod is asking for in order for it to work.

Sometimes a mod would be buggy for some reason when installed on an already excising progress save, i had it happen to me but it was solved by starting a new game. It worked for me and i find it strange when it did but who knows it may or may not work for you.

P.S. stating a new game is a way to check if its caused by the savegame file that was used when adding & removing mods when you played, in time the savegame file will become corrupt and cause issues for other mods.

Started a new game, but still no luck. No new bugs, so that's something I guess. I kinda wish there was a way to just give the unfinished plugin to someone else for them to look at, as I am admittedly a newbie at this sort of thing. I can't even test anything else about them as an actual follower because this dialogue won't show up.

are you using FNIS and also the other mods that are needed in order to get stuff working with not issues ?

you also need SKSE, there is a guide in how to mod the game and such but i don't remember but if i do find it then i'll post it here but sadly for now i need to go to bed cause i'm sleepy but when i get back i'll get the guide if no one else as posted it for ya yet.

I'll also look into my Mod List to so that i can tell you what things to get & hopefully it will get your game working with that Mod.

Unfortunately, stuff like SKSE isn't compatible with PS4 mods. However, additional follower mods are a thing on PS4, and I mean...I'm just adding an NPC the way the devs do, right?

NOTE: SKSE64 is only needed if a mod requires it - otherwise, there is no need to have it installed (unless you are on PC and wish to avoid triggering updates to the game).

@AdventuterHuggles - You may be better off asking in the Nexus forums, as it is more likely you will get help from experienced mod authors there.

A mod that adds new dialogue, especially for a unique follower npc, requires that you load a save file with the mod enabled, save the game, go back to menu, then load that same save file.

I am working on a custom follower mod too and have experience, don't mind helping you out.

What counts as 'new' dialogue? Like I mentioned above, I've simply 'stolen' dialogue from a vanilla NPC (finding the dialogue in the files and reassigning the actor).

Hmmm, just had a quick go anyway. Loaded the game, had the mod active, saved, backed out to menu, loaded the save, still got nothing.

Then you've set it up in the plugin incorrectly. The likely reason why its not working for your new npc is because the dialogue your "borrowing" has a specific voice/npc tagged in its conditions.

To my knowledge, I've changed all the relevant condition tags.

Sometimes followers require the RDO, relationship dialogue overhaul mod in order to function properly. DO you have that mod active??
