Extreme blurring
I posted this on Nexus a few days ago but have had no replies so I'm hoping that the Steam Community may be more active in respect of this game.

For some time now, my game has become permanently blurred with anything in the distance impossible to see and anything further than about 6 meters from my player badly blurred. It isn't motion blur because it continues even when nothing is moving. I'm not sure but I think this started after upgrading to the Anniversary edition. I have a screenshot available in PDF format but it doesn't seem to be possible to add attachments here.

I tried turning off Depth Of Field but that did not help. I have added no new mods since before the problem began. Any suggestions for getting rid of it would be greatly appreciated.

This has nothing to do with adding the AE DLC The game itself is SSE regardless of version number), and no restart of a game would be needed - whether the game updated or the AE DLC was purchased and added.

Did you check the slider in the in game Settings, Display option? The DOF slider should be all the way to the left to disable Depth of Field.

Also, using sisme 0 command is not really recommended as it removes ALL image space modifiers.

Thank you for your reply. "sisme 0" solved the problem. Is there a setting somewhere for making that permanent?

I use Vortex to manage my mods but can't find any option for exporting a list of mods. I also use LOOT and can copy the content from that which shows all the mods but it also shows loads of other stuff that you probably won't want.

I don't have any ENB or reshade mods installed.

I did not start a fresh game after upgrading to AE because it has taken me several years to reach level 73. I feared the upgrade would wreck some of my mods. So far, most seem to work as usual other than SkyUI and SKSE64 which makes chest, urn, and barrel opening take about 20 seconds.

Yes, I have the DOF slider fully to the left but it makes no difference. Only the sisme 1 command managed to cure it however, when I restart the game the blurring returns so the sisme 1 command is not permanent.

One way of viewing the screenshots I took would be to visit the original post I made in the Nexus forum because that permits attachments:

Ah! That's not depth of field. Are you playing with Frostfall mod? Because that looks exactly like the effect caused when the player is suffering from cold. Or, it is some other effect caused by some other mod or effect in game. Did you check your Active Effects (the P key) to see if you are being effected by something in the game?

Some mod is applying an ISM to your char, its either working as intended and you just don't like the effect OR its bugged and not being removed.

I checked my active effects and there's nothing that could cause this. I don't have the Frostfall mod. I will now search for the More Informative Console mod and report back once I've checked that out. I'm beginning to think it may be related to SKSE64 because that doesn't appear to be working as it should.

xSE's do not do a thing on their own. They inject to memory, but calls must be made by .dll files in your game.

Apparently, in order to work, the More Informative Console requires Address Library for SKSE plugins. I am not keen to install that because the bug reports are off the charts!

Another thing you can try is removing magic effects. If you have the Unofficial Patch installed (and you should, as it fixes literally thousands of bugs, some of them game breaking), there should be a book - USSEP Unwanted Effects Remover - in the Temple of Kynareth in Whiterun. Look for the unwanted effects removal book on one of the bookshelves.

Alternately, you can use player.additem xx0B1985 1
Where xx is the position in your load order of the Unofficial Patch (just replace the xx with the position number). That will place the book in your inventory.

Feel free to install Address Library. Grand majority of those bug reports are user or mod author mistakes, or misunderstandings.

Adding to previous: this is unfortunately the situation in BGS modding community. Too many players have extremely poor understanding of resource priority conflicts, or error messages.

In several cases, the plugin that is mentioned as SOURCE of error is not the CAUSE of the error. If people would pay a bit more attention to error messages, then they would figure it out.

Loose file conflicts are also a common thing, especially with skeleton(s) and xSE plugins. Mod managers show that they conflict, but users give little care about it. "If this file gave the error, then that must be the cause" is too common way to think about this.

Just checking the first page of the bug list, I could go and start drawing "Not a Bug" messages up and around of it. These guys are just confused about what is actually causing the error and how to read the messages.

Well I have installed both and the More Informative Console appears to be working, although with an UHD screen it is very difficult to read. I tried editing the .ini file as suggested by the author but that hasn't made any difference. Anyway, I digress...

I cannot see any information that I can actually use. Clicking on the player reads there are 77 effects in play and 128 spells. Clicking on a blurred part of the screen only tells me that it is a tree.

What should I be looking for?

Most magic effects from other mods are set to hidden, you wont see them in the status window.

You should start disabling likely mods to figure which one is causing the blurring.

I wouldn't know where to start. Besides which, other than the console mod installed today, no new mods have been installed, other than updates, since I upgraded to the Anniversary Edition. Prior to that I never had this issue.

To me, and I may be way off the mark here, it looks like motion blur except that it's permanent even when nothing is moving other than background npc's.
BolloxURsole Jan 3, 2023 @ 9:41am
If I copy/paste the list of all my installed mods from LOOT, would anyone be able to tell me which ones would be the most likely culprits of this issue?
