Silver Hand - Good or Bad guys
First of all, i know this must have been a hit topic for ages in Skyrim, but then, i checked the forum and last focused thread on this was in 2019 and even so barely touched the subject.

That said, this is a theorical discussion, so every oponion is welcome.

From my pov, the silver hands are the good guys into a whole and the companions are a complex bunch of characters.

Concept: First of all there's a need to define a werewolf in ES universe, like vampires, they're changed humanoids that fit a desire of a Daedra Lord. So, the same way Molag Bal made Vampires, Hicine made werewolves, and just to specify, Hicine isn't any goody two shoes, if i have to make a comparison to D&D Hicine is pretty well near Malar (God) character.

Behavior: Werewolves are wild and savage, lost of control is a pretty common ocurrence among them and while they will not attack companions normally - based on their familiarity with their scent -, the same can't be said about other people. In one of the silver hand quests, for example, there's a living werewolf locked that, if you free, will attack you on sight.

Overall: Silver Hands are, like the Vigilants of Stendarr, but focus attacks on were beings (werewolfs, bears and etc...) they're a bit more zealot apparently.

Game structure: Silver Hand behaves like a bandit group, but that look to me more as a bad and lazy script from the game developers than reason to take them as evil.

Lorewise: There's a theory with some ingame lore to sustain it that the Silver Hands are a branch faction of the old Companions of before, which is the reason for their focus in collect Wuuthrad fragments and there's a banter of the group about the companions being shameful in the eyes of Ysgramor.

I personally thought the faction deserved an alternative approach (maybe with Creation CLub, who knows), but what are you ppl thoughts on this?

I may have to replay Companions questline but I don't remember Silver Hand raiding settlements or torturing children

Didn't saw any tortured children, but in their hideout there's a lot of corpses in cells and tables, with an indirectly feeling of being commom people afflicted with Lycantrophy.

yeah but I do remember companion making a habit of unleashing the new member of their stupid circle on poor whiterun habitants, companion are happy unleashing ravening beast at defenceless citizen, companion are dangerous in their stupidity

as the game is right now one are bandits in remote location and the other are wolves in sheep clothing happy to send their new blood rampaging in the city, the silver hand look better to me then the companion

The silver hand are heroes, you are just to ignorant to see it, they found out about the werewolf stuff and the connection to the companions, and said: NO
and raid settlements to fund their campaign, that is not the work of heroes....
Can't fret over every egg. :steammocking:

You DO realize that you're still in full control during that part, don't you? If your character is attacking Whiterun NPCs willy-nilly, it's because YOU made the choice to do that. The Silver Hand are the ones that kidnap and torture innocent people based on nothing more than a suspicion. The Companions don't do that. Besides, this debate isn't about the Companions; the focus here is on the Silver Hand, and ONLY the Silver Hand. At best, the Companions are tangential to this.

You lose control as you black out after a bit. And the Companions know that werewolves lose control.
As for Silver Hand kidnapping and torturing innocents based on suspicion - that's also nothing but your suspicion.

So I'm going through Companions questline and it turns out Silver Hand bases, except 2 of them I think, are procedurally generated by replacing bandits in a random bandit hideout.
Lazy.
Obviously anything bandits do, may be applied to Silver Hand and it's gonna be different things each playthrough.
Unless they take over bandits hideouts and have nothing to do with any evidence of tortured children and ♥♥♥♥ inside

the fighter guild in oblivion wasnt perfect but yeah I prefered the blackwood company as an antagonist at least they had a bit more depth

I like the dark brotherhood and thieves guild quest line in skyrim but the college and the companion really got the short end of the stick and were really bad well at least for me
