Vortex (manual load order)
Hi all,

I use Vortex+LOOT for my mods. From an expert i had to change the load order a bit.

I got my list on what to change, i just need to know how. So far youtube hasn't been able to help me.

So could someone maybe help me with this?

Either set custom rules and re-sort or you can manually enter the mod slot to lock it in if you double click the plugin on the catagory column and scroll to the bottom of the window that opens. Beware though if you want it to load in a specific slot that as you continue to add mods you may have to adjust that entry.

Also if you are trying to move a plugin below a master to that plugin vortex will ignore your rules and load it ahead of the master like it should. Custom rules will only be applied if they are valid.

Just seen this post and I use mods but just the click and install type thing. There is a load order when it comes to mods? The ones I have now are working nice. I'm curious to learn more, I'm still trying to figure out how to enable achievements, even with a lot of help from some good people on this forum. ( it's not them, it's me )

Yes, LOOT gets a lot of it right, but not all. Like in my case i have to change some things. Cuz not everything is working and in my last playthrough i had an infinite loading screen so thats why i needed to chnage things.

Well, I have no experience with the managers.

But if you simply edit your plugins.txt located at your user/local folder that will change the order.

Now the question is if managers check that file at every launch (most likely not), but you can also simply launch through your skse.exe (I assume you have it since most of those who mod do, otherwise just through normal game-exe).

The custom rules thing with the dropdown menu's is a real big question mark from me.

I did dubbleclick it and there is a menu but when i fill in the load order number and save, it still doesn't do anything. Im 100% doing something wrong, just don'yt know what.

Can't find it, most folders are managed by Vortex. In my data folder i do see my mods. but they aren't in the same order as LOOT has done it.

It should be there: C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\AppData\Local\Skyrim Special Edition

It does not matter really if you use manager to assemble mods or not. Manager simply automates the procedure for you, but it does not change how the game works so the plugins.txt file should be on the same place automatically generated by your manager.

Custom rules are meant to tell Vortex to load a plugin before/after another plugin, as a plugin in most cases doesn’t have to be in a specific place but instead either after or before a specific plugin it conflicts with. You can also use custom loadorder groups, in the plugins menu you can create a custom group and show where it should be in the hierarchy, then put such and such mod in that group, although I will admit that is a somewhat advanced usage that most just ignore.

I have my game on my external Harddrive. So not in C.

Does not matter where the game is installed, you will still have that folder and file on C drive.

Actually, to be more accurate the drive which windows is installed, which is usually C.

Are you sure you did not forget to set the settings so you can see hidden folders?

Not sure exactly what you're trying to do but if you look in this guide in the section titled "Manual Rules you'll see how to manually set rules for mods.

I never did get to finish that particular section but it will at least help you set those sections so you can see the options. The two sections in Vortex you should be concerned with are "Mods" and "Plugins"

So i copied this from my other Discussion:

PROPER INITIAL LOAD ORDER for game version 1.6.640 (the current version and the only supported one):
Skyrim.esm
Update.esm
Dawnguard.esm
Hearthfires.esm
Dragonborn.esm
ccBGSSSE001-Fish.esm
ccQDRSSE001-SurvivalMode.esl
ccBGSSSE037-Curios.esl
ccBGSSSE025-AdvDSGS.esm
[any Creation Club master-flagged ESLs you may have:]
Lanterns Of Skyrim - All In One - Main.esm (if installed)
Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch.esp
[Your other ESM files]
[The rest of your mods]
Alternate Start - Live Another Life.esp (if installed)
Bashed Patch If you have one - which you should, just for the Containers and Leveled List, so as to ensure that everything that should appear in the game, actually does.

Note that the CC content that has been added to the base game immediately follows Dragonborn, and the remainder of the CC content from the AE DLC follows it.

The above may not be the cause of your infinite load screen, but should be fixed. As to a Bashed Patch, that will not cause any issues except for some items not appearing in the game.

Reason why i have to change it is because i got infinite loading screen on fast travel in my last playthrough. Apparantly i also have to change the Creation Club ones. Dunno what your opinions on that is?

Sorry can't help you with that, I do not use any of the popular mod managers and not sure what that "laodorder.txt" is there for.

If you launch Skyrim not from the manager though but from game/skse exe-file it should look for plugins.txt and load according to the order there (from top to bottom).

I really advise against manually sorting your plugins: if you do, you'll have to keep doing it in the future, since using LOOT might undo your changes. Also, if you can do it manually (moving plugin X after plugin Y), there's no reason you can't just add rules to LOOT (select plugin X in the left field, "must load after" in the middle, plugin Y in the right field).
