Cart Bugging out in Intro?
So I installed some mods for Skyrim special edition and when I started the game the buggy we ride in started flying all over the screen. When we got to helgen the cart hit and killed the captain so she isn't giving dialogue and now the prisoner ahead of me who she usually forces to kneel down is just standing there... Anyone know where to start to fix the issue?

People flying around sounds like FPS is over 60.
The dialogue not starting I don't know, but the people flying around is probably the FPS.

Also what mods, were not mind readers you know.

Disreguard, I just saw the post that you are trying to use NMM to mod.

You may be too far into the game to start again .... but it's worth considering

But limit your frame rate to 60 and it will hopefully go away

I mean it was just the start so I didn't mind restarting. I closed the game and started a new game and it worked fine for some reason lol

That is caused by two issues, your fps being over 60 and having too many script heavy mods loading at the same time.

First is solved by capping your fps, second is by using Luve another Life and letting your mods load before starting the cart scene.

Also any mods that alter the nav could cause cart issues.

Just in case anyone comes back to this thread....

There is a mod that's been out forever that fixes this problem when it is caused by scripts being loaded.

Prisoner Cart Fix (SMIM ver.)

I always play the original prison cart beginning even with a heavily modded game and it works with this fix.

(Though it's still possible for some actors to occasionally get confused and missplaced from heavy script load)

or just install the heavy script mods, when you finish tutorial quest going out of helgen..

I used to get this in LE when I had Immersive Armors loaded. Disable IA until after leaving Helgen and it ran fine. Dunno why that mod would cause the cart to go flying, but after a few rounds of disabling/enabling, it only did it when IA was active, no matter how VSync was set.

And that was a manual install.

Was really fun with Deadly Dragons installed, which placed dragons in the world before the first fight. Aggro a dragon by the lake, hands are still bound, cart laying on top of me, burning to death.

I just wanted to add that 99.9999% of the time, the cart scene bugging out is not due to an FPS issue, but I still see people mention it all the time. You have to go out of your way to uncap FPS and get issues in SSE.

How to avoid bugs in the cart ride to Helgen:

First, you should always use Alternate Start: Live Another Life, even if you only select the vanilla start. This will let you avoid most issues with that scene. The second thing you should try if you continue to have problems is that SMIM fix, although I will mention I had to use the LE version to get it to work. All it does is replace one single mesh and has absolutely nothing to do with scripts. Certain mods that add animations can cause it to glitch and so can Immersive Armors, but I doubt these would cause a problem if you're using LAL.

Overclocking does it too. I had the problem once. When I turned off overclocking it stopped. Since then I have never had it happen again. Most people have no idea how to test their overclocking and just set it on a guess. It can cause as many problems as too high an fps.

That's interesting. I don't overclock and never realized that could cause a problem. There are so many things that can cause that cart scene to go nuts. Even with LAL installed, I had PCEA2 throw me into third person once or twice in the cart scene for no apparent reason.

certain heavy mods will wreck the opening sequence no matter if you trigger it vanilla or with LAL

Yeah, sometimes you just need to wait until after Helgen to load certain mods. LAL will prevent most of this, though.

Some mods even show signs of errors before they actually trigger; My Home Is Your Home will not load the "Let's talk about home" dialog option if Hadvar's horse doesn't stay where he was dismounted, or Hadvar rides it all the way to the "Who are you?" marker, or if Ralof goes wandering behind you when he's bidding farewell to Ulfric after getting off the cart.

Moving it up or down one place in the load order will fix it for the rest of the game, and for every New Game after that, until it does it again, in which case you move it the opposite direction one spot and it's right as rain until a few New Games later.

I still get Player Headtracking notices once in a while saying to save and reload to upgrade to 2.6.

If I see any of those, I know to just start a New Game, because something, somewhere, is horribly broken, and it'll show up at a critical moment after spending days on one playthrough.
