Restoration Perk Recovery
Hey guys,
the Recovery Perk in the restoration skill tree provides 25 % faster magicka regeneration on rank 1 and 50 % on rank 2. I have no idea how much that actuelly is. Are the perks useful? What do you think?

Resto is the best magic class in the game especially if you are going for a Mcconnell Ret build and want to spam Heals/Sun/Stendarr with melee. Perk that up for undead destruction.

If you are playing a mage, I'd say your end goal should be to max out enchanting as quick as possible to create a suit that allows you to cast your favorite schools of magic for 0 cost, making things like cost reduction or extra recovery less useful unless you need to take them to unlock something else or have perks to spare. This is basically a requirement for viable destruction mages if you haven't modded magic too heavily.
Actually that's not the only way. With high enough magicka and high enough magicka regen one can cast spells without spending valuable enchanting slots for magicka cost reduction. But that's a pretty hardcore way coz you have to invest a lot of levels in magicka pool.

You regenerate 3.00% of your maximum magicka per second outside of combat and 0.99% in combat.

I love how neither response actually answered the OP question.

@OP: Magicka has a normal magicka regen rate of 3% of your maximum magicka per second, so at level one it would be 3 magic per second, however this is only outside of combat, when you're in combat it slows down by 66% to a mere 1%,

The restoration perks increase the speed you regenerate magicka of the base regen. You might have realized the 50% of 3% I is not a much, and you're right, however, your regen is based of your TOTAL magicka, if you had say 400 mana you'd be regenerating 12 + 50% every second. 18 (6 in combat) isn't too bad but it's still not great, that's where enchanted items come into play.

Items that give more regen, increase magicka and lower the cost all help.

As A7 pointed out it is possible to reduce the cost of a (two actually) school to zero. You can do this any many people do but in my personal opinion is cheapens the experience of being a mage, if you stack magicika and regen along with a bit of cost reduction you should never run out anyway.

My highest level mage was level 72, I had over 600 magicka and like 300% regen gear, That's 54 per second 18 in combat.

Ahh thanks :)
So with the 50% magicka regeneration I would have 4,5% out of and 1,5% in battle.
Hm I´m playing as a breton battlemage with heavy armor, one-handed and shield. I use alteration, conjuration and restoration as support. I think you are right and enchanting would be better for me...

Yep. 4.5% and 1.5% at rank 2. It's not a ton but it's faster than it sounds, and as I mentioned it is based on max magicka, so as you level and improve your magicka reserves it will get faster. Robes, even early games ones do have boosted magic regen, a combo of robes and armor could work for awhile.

You will eventually want to level up enchanting at some point.
