So, crossbow are supposed to use trigger when you pull? You sure of that?
Lol I never used one. I personally LOVE the bow and the sound it make.
(Modern crossbows mostly have a trigger - like a gun. 'Medieval' ones had other mechanisms, but they shot when you pushed or pulled something, not when releasing the string you held -that wouldn't even be possible with the enormous draw weight of most crossbows.)
Also, that link provided by SerraShaar is for Oldrim - NOT SSE, so the information is not valid for this version of the game.
My bad. Should I remove the link then? Just to be on the safe side?
Just searched myself since a simple search on the Nexus using 'crossbow' only turned up six pages. The following was on the first...but no luck in anything that alters the mechanics the way you are looking for.

It couldn't have been that hard to implement slightly altered mechanics though. Aim (zoom) with L2, shoot when pressing R2. If the X-Bow is reloading automatically anyway, that seems simple enough. Oh well it's Bethesda.
Well...zooming being handled by eagle eye and the steady hand perk slowing time allows the native mechanics to function better than what you are asking. Also...I would not want to be without the ability to bash. No worries...you'll get used to it. BTW...after you fire with a crossbow by letting go of primary fire...you can immediately hold it down again while reloading so you are ready to fire as soon as it is done. Cheers.
