Mod to change Crossbow mechanics?
Hey!

Is there a mod - or another way - to change the crossbow to shooting when you PULL the trigger, instead of when it releases?

(I don't even know why they didn't do that in the first place...)

Hm, not sure. You can take a look at all these crossbow and see if any catch your eyes?

So, crossbow are supposed to use trigger when you pull? You sure of that?

Lol I never used one. I personally LOVE the bow and the sound it make.

Thanks, I'll check them out!

(Modern crossbows mostly have a trigger - like a gun. 'Medieval' ones had other mechanisms, but they shot when you pushed or pulled something, not when releasing the string you held -that wouldn't even be possible with the enormous draw weight of most crossbows.)

Search on Nexus using the words crossbow animation - there are several mods that change it - perhaps one will what you are looking for.

Also, that link provided by SerraShaar is for Oldrim - NOT SSE, so the information is not valid for this version of the game.

My bad. Should I remove the link then? Just to be on the safe side?

Yeah, might be a good idea. But don't sweat it - confusion regarding the two different games is happening a lot, lately.

A lever ususally, which you squeezed, because aiming a crossbow while trying to pull something was a Baaad idea

Since crossbows were added after bows in the development of the game...the mechanics of gameplay were simply carried over in order to reduce the learning curve. Press and hold primary attack and release to fire...hit secondary attack to bash. In the game the crossbow functions as it should...draw and lock the bow...nock a bolt...aim and squeeze/pull trigger to fire. There is a good chance of the existence of a mod that alters the mechanics to change the secondary fire to 'iron sights' and then tapping the primary fire to shoot...you would still have to hold a key to aim though...but one-click hip-firing would be possible. However...the steady hand perk would preclude the need for hip-firing altogether. The last question that remains would be what keystroke replaces the bash function.

Just searched myself since a simple search on the Nexus using 'crossbow' only turned up six pages. The following was on the first...but no luck in anything that alters the mechanics the way you are looking for.

Yeah, I searched Nexus too, but it doesn't say anything about the mechanics on the mods' pages.

It couldn't have been that hard to implement slightly altered mechanics though. Aim (zoom) with L2, shoot when pressing R2. If the X-Bow is reloading automatically anyway, that seems simple enough. Oh well it's Bethesda.

Well...zooming being handled by eagle eye and the steady hand perk slowing time allows the native mechanics to function better than what you are asking. Also...I would not want to be without the ability to bash. No worries...you'll get used to it. BTW...after you fire with a crossbow by letting go of primary fire...you can immediately hold it down again while reloading so you are ready to fire as soon as it is done. Cheers.
