The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition

5120x1440 & racemenu
After the last update broke stuff I wound up having to reinstall everything from scratch (including game) Currently I now am getting stuck at the initial character creation menu where the UI is insanely oversized and cant select anything other than race. Does anyone have some direction I can head in to try to resolve this?
The pause menu looks to be fine, just having problems with this one thing.

Current resolution: 5120x1440
Fullscreen enabled, borderless enabled.

I am no expert but, should borderless be used without fullscreen? Is not it a whole point of it?

Aren’t RaceMenu and Enhanced Character Edit not compatible with one another?

I’m fairly certain both mods state on their page to not use it with the other.

That may not be the direct cause of your issue, but generally speaking when you try and use two mods together that aren’t supposed to be used together wonkiness will ensue.

See what happens if you only use RaceMenu or only use ECE.

Didnt see that - its buried way down there.
Doesnt make any difference anyway though- disabled ECE, same problem exists.
Its something specific to character creation at this resolution though it does this same thing with zero mods installed. changed to 1920x1080 and the problem goes away.

You can then set your resolution to whatever you want in skyrimprefs.ini (enable/disable borderless and fullscreen to your liking) after this and you're set until you need to use it again.

im sure there was probably a mod created to fix this which is either now gone or has not been updated to work with the latest updates but so far this was the only way I could get through this.

good catch- thats my fault it should have said full screen NOT enabled and borderless NOT enabled.
brain was going far faster than my fingers. +10 to you!

Mayhaps that widescreen_skyui_fix mod you have there needed an update for 1.6.640 and has yet to receive one?

kind a doubt it. it was updated after the last round of game updates and the issue is present without this mod being present

Yes - you need to get UI files sized for your UI. The game doesn't do it automatically. Sucks, but keep in mind that this game was made in 2011 before widescreen was a thing on consoles - and it is, in the end, a game designed for consoles, not a pc game.

You can try widescreen gaming's website or its gonna be a Google search because I haven't seen anything for resolutions that high. If you can find something in the same ratio but for a lower res-screen it can work. I'm running 3840x1080 and I found this works for me

I have that one already there.
everything else is fine- its only character creation that this problem happens in.. not everything across the board.

It does this on the character creation screen even when you have neither RaceMenu or ECE installed?

Have you tried verifying the integrity of the game cache?

Otherwise I don’t know what it could be other than what someone else alluded to: that Skyrim really wasn’t made to be played at such resolutions thus shenanigans can sometimes occur.

Just to be clear though, did it work just fine at this resolution before the update? Or is using this resolution something you’re attempting for the first time.

Also don’t know if it would have anything to do with it, but for RaceMenu, are you using the version on Nexus or the version from the creator’s patreon page?

For whatever reason, the creator only updated the mod on his Patreon. The version on Nexus is still the 1.6.353 version.

Keep in mind that UI mods have to be installed last lest their changes get copied over.

Due to the updates that went through and when I got back into playing, its been done multiple times as has reinstalling. This is how I came to find it happening with no mods installed at all too.

I think this is actually the real answer "stop doin what it aint meant to do" is the real answer unfortunately. The only fix Ive found for this is changing the resolution to 1080 when I do character creation and then back to 5120x1440 to play.

I cant answer, I stopped playing for an extended period of time and picked up the monitor well after that point and picked it back up the same day (by pure luck) the latest updates started getting pushed out. based on what Ive found from others having this problem, Id have to say no it doesnt work? but Im basing that on what others have been saying who have this problem.

Wrong Racemenu is updated on the Nexus ...

If you're using Complete Widescreen Fix, that's not going to work for you. That's for 21:9 aspect ratio monitors, not 32:9.

it works just fine for everything except character creation, and the issues with character creation are present at that resolution even without a single mod installed.
