Nemesis isn't any better than FNIS, its all about what animation mods you want to use.
it's not hard to set it up. Only major downside to it- it will crash when installing the animations. You have to keep re-launching it until it actually does it's thing. It doesn't use creature animations, fnis does. So if want to use creature animations- use fnis + fnis creature pack. Then disable fnis and use nemesis to run nemesis animations.
If you get somekind of error message from Nemesis... it will sound sus but disable real time protection in your windows settings then run nemesis. Then enable real time protection.. it's sounds stressful but hey- nothing is truly that easy when it comes to modding :P
NGL also the nemesis nexus isn't clear about where to install the files there's not just the nemesis folder but it says put it in the data folder but says nothing else about the other folders in the damn download ffs.
1. First
Make sure your Windows System Locale is set to English (Start - Windows System - Control Panel - Region - Administrative - Change System Locale - English [United States]), not in another language, or it apparently modifies handling of file names and file paths, which causes Nemesis to gain errors when using it. Nemesis was built to be compatible in an English-based System Locale only (for now).
2. Install Nemesis
Project New Reign - Nemesis Unlimited Behavior Engine[www.nexusmods.com] Install with Mod Manager.
3. Now from the top left side of Vortex select "Dashboard" then in the "Tools" section select the plus sign (+) that says "Add Tool" (same area we added SKSE), name it "Nemesis", then select "Target", navigate to your Skyrim Special Edition folder/ Data/ Nemesis_Engine/ and find "Nemesis Unlimited Behavior Engine.exe", select it then select "open", select Save.
4. Run Nemesis
Now open Nemesis from that dashboard shortcut (up top) and once it opens select "Update Engine" you'll get some warnings because we have not yet installed animation mods so this is normal, dismiss the warnings and let the update run. Now select "Launch Nemesis Behavior Engine" and let it run then close Nemesis (x).
5. Now select the "Mods" tab on the left side of Vortex and use the "Deploy Mods" function at the top of Vortex.
The Nemesis Engine is installed and setup.
Important Reminder
Much like FINIS when we add animation mods we must run Nemesis in the same manner (as steps 4 & 5 above) after the installation of each animation mod that relies on Nemesis, the only difference is that we will be checking the appropriate box for whatever animation mod we are adding at that time (and we won't have the language step).
You can simply tick the box for "Retimed Hit Frames" But you still have to go thru steps 4 and 5 as outlined above.
This is something the mod author himself suggests on the web page for his mod "Retimed Hit Frames"
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/26876
if you end up doing so I'd still manually download his mod and then endorse it.
