It won't work on Alduin. He's immune.

I have successfully used Bend Will on named dragons that appear and attack you or are located at places like Shear Point. Alduin is not affected by Bend Will.

Let me guess, it's because he's the big baddie so he's immune...

It is also because he took Domination as his birthright. How can you dominate a creature that by definition is the epitome of domination?
Von Faustien Nov 29, 2022 @ 5:22pm
he's one of the three main aspects of whats arguably the most powerful god in the 8 divines. You think some second rate scrap of forbidden knowledge is going to work on something that rival Hermas mora in terms of brute force power?

Pretty sure Alduin is supposed to be stronger than any Daedric prince at his full power. And aren't all dragons technically aspects of Akatosh?

Then how come Dragonrend can force Alduin to submit to the ground?

Dragonrend isn't a domination-type force. It is a distraction that just messes with their mind so badly that it forces them to the ground. The concepts behind Dragonrend, according to Parthurnax (spelling), are totally incomprehensible to dragons.

When they hear it the distraction is so great that lose concentration and can't fly any longer. They can still fight after they land, I have seen that. That is why it even affects Alduin.

Is it me or do dragons take some dmg by the Dragonrend shout?

i mean yes you could argue all dragons are part of akatosh but the 3 big parts are auriel the begining of time, akatosh time and Alduian the end of time.

as for Alduian being stronger than deadra acourding to this he basicly cursed a god into being Mehruns dagon for mucking with his meal and sent Lorkhan running to the hills.

I have never once thought about looking at that when bringing them down. I have always thought that their damage was caused by all the arrows I was putting in them before I shouted and while they were on their way down.

Alduin ain't the only dragon that is immune of this shout. Tried it on two other dragons (Paarthurnax and one of the twins in Forgotten Vale - likely the other is immune too)before, did not work on both. I thought first it was a mod issue but could reproduce it in a vanilla state.

It's just done by design.

It simply doesn't work on dragons that are not in the open world maps (forgotten vale is it's own world space), because of technical issues and riding the dragon. It also won't work on the dragon in black reach or the nameless dragons in skuldafn, simply because of technical issues.

It won't work on paarthunax again because of technical issues the players would break the game by doing so, especially if you did it in the first meeting with him. It's not because of something in the lore.

thus ... "It's just done by design" ?

Yes, but not because of lore reasons stating paarthunax or nameless skuldafn dragon are immune to it, but because of game mechanics. Yes, by design, but not for lore reasons as some in this thread suggested.

It's possible though that alduin can't be bent will because he's an immortal deity or aspect of a deity, as even the greybeard say he will likely return when he's supposed to eat the world, but at this point it's all speculation.
