Need help with Immersive Amazing Follower Tweaks

I've played the original Skyrim version using the UFO mod, and absolutely loved the experience. Now I am trying the special edition, and have heard great things about the Immersive Amazing Follower Tweaks mod, so I'd really like to try this out since the game feels incredibly unplayable to me without follower mortality and with silly, unrealistic follower caps. However, when trying to play the game with the mod, none of the mod's features are functioning. The readme book did not appear in my inventory, the new powers did not appear in my powers menu, no additional dialogue options are available when talking to my followers, and they auto dismiss themselves once I attempt to recruit a second follower. I am not running many other mods, and have no other mods that affect or add followers in any way, so there should be no conflict. I have tried changing the load order placing iaft at the bottom, uninstalling and reinstalling both Skyrim and the mod, and have tried starting fresh playthroughs after each of the aforementioned changes, but nothing seems to cause the mod to function. If someone could provide me with some assistance as to why this might not be working, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
