Horses bugged?
I've played Skyrim for years and I absolutely adore the game - but I have never experienced this issue in all of the years and hours I have played.
I have a horse (to get straight to the point, it isn't stolen - I bought it), I'll fast travel to some location, and my horse will just wander off somewhere, and keep walking.

And I believe I may know why this is happening:
- I originally bought the black Whiterun horse, it was murdered by Forsworn
- I then bought the 'marbled' Riften horse in replacement, everything was normal until I went to a cave, and a dragon showed up, I went into the cave, came out, and the horse was gone. I assumed it just ran off, but I continued to wait and fast travel and it just wouldn't show up, so I then assumed the Dragon killed it.
- I eventually went back to Whiterun, to see two Saddled Horses, and one of them was my original horse - the one killed off by Forsworn, which I had saw myself so I knew it happened for sure. I knew it was bugged or something, so I killed off my original, somehow resurrected horse to prevent any issues.

And then I bought another horse, the yellowy one from Solitude, and this is the one with a chronic case of wandering off.
I looked it up, and it's all about stolen horses, but this is one I own - the only other thing I've found is that this can happen if you own too many horses, so they become active/inactive. But all the other competition is dead, or vanished. I think anyway

I know this is a small issue, but I really want to resolve it, any help is appreciated

They do move a bit, and worse if attacked by anything, even if they kill it, they move even more, often bolting at the initial attack....

But if not attacked they shouldn't move that much....
Not sure why your other horses have disappeared though.

I use a horse mod, had various troubles with the vanilla horse in Oldrim. If modding is an option, did you consider to install one?

Convenient Horses or Immersive Horses, pick one.

It's a famous old bug. I don't know how exactly to fix it. I've experienced it too. I was able to fix it with these actions:
1) Buy a new horse. I think it is better to buy it from the "new" stables where previously you never bought a horse.
2) Use this new horse. Bug should be fixed. If not - try other "untouched" stables.
3) Never use any other horses you have waiting for you at the any of your "old" stables.
4) Don't kill them either. I think it'll just make the bug worse.

I suppose when a horse dies and respawns it is no longer considered your own.
Perhaps the bug is that they shouldn't respawn in the first place

They should respawn in the stables from where they were originally bought. But when they respawn they must loose ownership, custom saddle, horse armor and so on. If this worked as intended then the player can just buy the same horse again as if nothing ever happened with this horse.

But this respawn process is bugged as hell. As a result glitches of different kinds may happen. Horse may loose ownership but still have saddle for example. And other horses may still "think" that this old horse is currently still active. And so they behave accordingly - when dismounted they start to go to their original stables.

One of the possible ways to fix this - buy this bugged horse again. Use it for like a minute. Script needs some time to act. Now dismount. It may fix "glitched" ownership flag. And now do as I described earlier.
