Calcemo wants a dwarven bolt...
...but I am unable to offer him any of the ones in my inventory.

So I got a message from the messenger and then went to Calcemo. The conversation starts and I have the option to say "I'm here about the dwarven bolt". But then after he says, "You are? Very good! May I see it?", my only dialogue option is "Actually I'm not sure I have it anymore".

I literally have 199 dwarven bolts in my inventory. Is there a "special" dwarven bolt somewhere that I had but lost?

Do you have mods that modify crossbows or crossbow bolts (add affects). Even if its CC it likely will mess up the quest as the quest looks for a specific ID (Hopefully base ID).

Possible fix:

HARD SAVE (Not quicksave, not Auto) YOUR GAME BEFORE you use a console command.

1. Open console and type Help "Dwarven Bolt" this should bring up sever entries one being something like AMMO: 02xxxxxxx where the x are numbers or letters (Likely you can find it online as well, DLC assets never change load order so are pretty reliable).

2. Next console entry type Player.additem the sequence you got above 02xxxxxxx where the x's are the numbers and letters.

That should work, but I offer no guarantees.

Edit: My bad forgot to add in you need to add number of bolts you want. So I will also give the Dwarven Bolt ID. Correcte ID because Dawnguard is 02, 01 I think is update.esm

So the command should be

player.additem 0200d099 1

it can be that you get the Message to late as normal you get Message only when you reach a Town or City.So the Bolt you have Found and he want is not anymore in your Inventory why you use him or you sell him.

Well if you don't have it anymore there should be an option in dialog that reflect that fact .... also ANY dwarven bolt would do it doesn't need to be that particular bolt.

Honestly I am hesitant to comment on this quest as my game is so heavily modded I can't be sure what is vanilla and what is a mod I installed years ago fixing the issues.

That's what makes it so hard sometimes troubleshooting. I have forgotten fixes I myself have done. Years ago I installed Immersive Creatures which added Variants of Werewolves (adding Grey and Orange) which messed up Immersive Armors (some cloak with a werewolf hood) and I fixed it but I no longer use Immersive Armors so I have no idea where I made the change so I can't remove the change I made. Currently all my Werewolves have grey or orange bodies but Vanilla Heads (Black Fur).

Welcome to modding.

After I visit Fort Dawnguard and pick up some special Dwemer Exploding Bolts from Sorine, I always get a messenger with a note from Calcemo wanting one.

Thank you all for your replies. I don't have any mods. I have SE Vanilla and recently added the Anniversary edition content. I went to see Calcemo not immediately after I received his message but shortly. But I like the suggestion about the Exploding bolts. I'll see if that does the trick. Thanks
