Waiting For Skyrim Sequel?
So are people more interested in waiting for Skyrim Sequel instead of Starfield
or Fallout 5? what do people prefer best? Don't think newer games would ever
beat the sequel to Skyrim. If Starfield flops?means Skyrim sequel come out quicker?

Will people stop playing Skyrim when sequel is out? If it is better?
Skyrim sequel has been mention more in new quakecon instead of Starfield.

ESO takes place in the Second Era, which is actually before all the other games. Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, and Oblivion all take place in the Third Era, Skyrim is in the Fourth.

@OP

My best guess is that TESVI will release between 2026 at the earliest, and 2028 at the latest.

Starfield is shooting for an early 2023 release now but I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets delayed again and pushed back into Q4 (October - December 2023).

Given that Starfield is a new IP and a passion project for Todd Howard, unless it absolutely BOMBS I can’t see them releasing a new TES or FO within 2 years of Starfield’s release. They’re gonna want the game to have it’s time in the spotlight, receive DLC/CC content, cultivate a modding community, and establish itself as their newest franchise.

TES and FO are incredibly popular franchises with large, established playerbases who are chomping at the bit for a new installment. Despite what others here have said, I believe you would absolutely see a sizeable exodus of active Starfield players and a significant drop in player interest in it if a new TES or FO hit shelves a year later.

These are large, time consuming games and people only have so much free time to spend sitting on the couch or in front of their PC…and if you gave a majority of people who are going to be playing Starfield a choice between finishing up that first playthrough, or starting a new one to explore different play styles/quests/choices/etc OR diving into a new TES/FO game and leaving Starfield in the dust…it’s obvious which most will choose.

@Lady

Why is he referring to it as a Skyrim sequel? Because I’d wager a majority of Skyrim/TES fans today have never and will never play Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, or Oblivion. They were introduced to TES through Skyrim and so TES IS Skyrim to them.

TES is only as popular as it is today BECAUSE of Skyrim.

Before it, TES was a niche franchise. It had its collection of loyal fans, but it was nowhere near as popular and financially successful.

Skyrim made Bethesda and TES “household names”, and for many - TES starts and (until the next comes out) ends with Skyrim.

Considering the fact that huge mod projects like Beyond Skyrim, Skyrim Extended Cut, Skyblivion, and Skywind exist I doubt people will ever stop playing Skyrim.

I am also pretty certain that all copies of Elder Scrolls 6 will probably come bundled with another copy of Skyrim.

Why do you refer to the Elder Scrolls 6 as "Skyrim Sequel"? Nobody referred to Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim as "sequels" to the previous games, because they aren't. Each has a different main character, based around a different set of circumstances, in a different province, and while all took place in Tamriel, that is the only similarity. A sequel suggests something that either took place after the events of the previous game, and is now continuing the story that went before, or is a *prequel*, involving retelling of the events leading up to the ones that took place after it.

But, to answer your question, I doubt people will stop playing Skyrim when The Elder Scrolls 6 comes out. People still play Morrowind and Oblivion today - and Skyrim has been out for over 10 years. Yet people are still playing those games.

Well, tbh I find Starfield to be kind of a dull, dull, already done to death premise. I cannot master even a spark of interest in it.

What I like about my games is persistent, engrossing, immersive worldbuilding that includes creating myths, religions, histories, social strata, new laws of "physics" (magic, tonal architecture, cosmology)

I don't really see Starfield giving me any of that. Not new laws of physics certainly, beyond the handwavy "oh, we can travel faster than light but don't ask how".

It will either end up being an umpteenth "inspired by Star Trek, Alien and Mass Effect" thing or vaguely Star-Warsy "space fantasy" with colorful goblins and magic swords but, you know, "in space".

Not really many chances for a world where stars are the holes in reality.

Also to add, no, people aren't going to stop playing previous instalments because a new one came out - plenty of people (me included) still regularly play Elder Scrolls games prior to Skyrim. Granted, some modding activity/focus may move to the new platform after a while if it proves to be good, but generally I don't think Skyrim is going to be abandoned.

What I wish is that Bethesda released ESO as a singleplayer game to let everyone catch up on its lore without having to play online (which I won't do).

What the world needs least of all is a Skyrim sequel.

Grief, TES VI is a bad enough proposition given its likely unfit for purpose state at launch, but a bug laden, glitch horror, quest and game breaking repeat of Skyrim...

...C'mon, who in their right mind would even bother to play it, let alone buy it?

Still, it would give modders plenty of scope practising their skills to knock it into shape for Beth to make oodles of unwarranted undeserved cash I guess, so maybe they would consider chucking one quickly together and dumping it on us all.

There is a sequel to Skyrim, it's called Elder Scrolls Online.

ESO is a prequel if anything.

Doesn't it come between Oblivion and Skyrim time-wise? Well, that's my recollection - I've not looked at ESO since it launched so I do stand to be corrected here.
SpeedFreak1972 Aug 8, 2022 @ 12:09am
If I'm correct the timeline of ESO is 1000 years before Skyrim.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

While I do agree with all that, I just wanted to point out to the OP, that his terminology of a "sequel" was incorrect, and that each Elder Scrolls game is not a continuation, as the term "sequel" implies. But, as I said, I do take your point. :steamhappy::cozyroe3:

Prequel only in story.

Yeah and Skyrim also heavily nerfed the RPG mechanics and forced me to intentionally handicap myself so I wouldn't become too OP by mid game lol.

The biggest most scripted mod I have is designed to do exactly that, add RPG mechanics and make choices matter because the consequences are heavy and severe.

A game is meant to be escapism but also entertaining, once you lose that "struggle for betterment" in a RPG game it ceases to be entertaining, but that is just mho.
