Skyrim doesn't think its really in 2560x1440 for some reason. The resolution doesn't quite seem optimized despite the mods, and when I alt+tab out my window is smaller.

I could attribute it to my new 32" monitor - but again, its still in 16:9 dimensions just as it was with 1920x1080, so I'm not really sure what's going on. I went into prefs.ini and changed the iWidth and iHeight to the appropriate numbers, because apparently the launcher doesn't have actual resolution settings (I know it does, what I'm saying is it doesn't seem to register when I select it)? lol

Make sure the ini's are not set to read only. It should work I have a 27" 2560*1440 monitor and it runs without problems. I'm not sure if I specified it in the launcher or if I went directly for the ini .... it's quite a while ago. I probably went directly for the ini due to that I run the game modded with skse and mod organizer which keeps an own set of ini's.

Even if you change the .ini to that resolution, you'll run into weird problems with the UI. If you get a mod like Dear Diary, it's designed to handle those wider resolutions, so that's one option.

Err 2560*1440 is a standard 16:9 resolution more common known as 1440p it's just a step up from 1920*1080 if it was ultra wide ok
Why add a p at the end when 99.999% of all displays in the past decade are all in progressive scan by default? Literally the only displays still being sold in interlaced would be those cheap low end monitors and TVs sold at Walmart lol.

Games don't care about the size or even the display panel of your monitor, only the amount of pixels it has and the aspect ratio.

Have you tried Borderless Window option?
It's a compromise between "exclusive fullscreen" and "window mode". The game window takes up your entire screen, but alt+tab should work fine (well, I never had any problems).

SSE Display Tweaks mod also worth a try, it can help fix some weird behavior/glitches.

Yes, SSE Display Tweaks should be running on every single install of Skyrim. problem should go away as soon as this is done

I really don't get it I run it at 2560*1440 on a 27 inch I have ZERO problems not running SSE display tweaks that said I run normal full screen

You have a good video card? Nvidia Control and GeForce experience can fix your problem. If you have AMD I dunno what they have. I never see much about GeForce in these comments, I don\t know why. You can avoid most visual problems and launch the game from there, rather than mess with SKSE.
