What version of the game are you running? If 1.6, then you need the so-called "AE version".
2. Have you started playing? If so for how long?
Asking because we want to be sure the problem is with skse and not the base game. Did you already install other mods as well before doing the above? If so which ones. Trying to establish the situation so we can all advise better. Mod Manager Type (if applicable).

Follow this guide to the letter. Everything. Also make sure you have the files it links

Then create a foundation. If you use Vortex it will install SKSE for you and if you try to install the wrong version it will tell you. Watch the video in the guide on how to install SKSE with Vortex (both of the next 2 guides have the video).
Use this and install the first 4 mods (plus a couple more are there if you like).
