Sinding bug
I think it's well known that even talking to him in his jailcell can be kinda iffy. I managed it by repeatedly coming to the bars and backing off. Eventually he remembered how to walk. We chatted, he sent me off after the stag and he screwed off.

Thank God I did a hard save before that. Pushing onto Bloated Man's Grotto wearing that damn ring which you cannot take off, it was full of animals but no hunters. Also no Sinding. There was a big arrow telling me where he should be, but Sinding himself was a no show.

Is it just me ? I recall doing this quest a very long time ago, but this time it seems to be totally borked. Haven't had any issues with any other quests - just this damn one.

You didn't mention it but, did you go to the other specified location and kill the white stag first?

Yes and then I went to the grotto. Should've been a slam dunk, right ? lol

So the issue with that quest is that you 100% need to wait at the jail cell for him to escape. After he gives you the ring he turns into a werewolf and climbs up to the top of the cell. At that point, you will get the message "started ill met by moonlight"...or whatever it says.

If you leave the barracks before you get that quest notification, the quest will bug as he will fail to escape the cell and the script to trigger the proper bloated mans grotto will not work.

I had this issue 3 days ago. Loading and waiting for him to escape fixed it.

So much in Skyrim that is quest related involves waiting for the game to register the information and start the quest. If you don't wait (like waiting for the NPCs to finish their dialogue) or run the game at over 60 FPS (thus not giving the game time to finish running the necessary scripts), things get broken. Though by far it is people being impatience with NPCs taking their sweet time talking - LOL!

I suspect that might be it. I think he was in the process of escaping, but I ran out the door to get things underway and y'know, he might not have actually completed his 'escape'.

I'll give it another go at some point. Thanks.

Yeah I have noticed that at times.............. I'll finish (I think) a quest and there's a certain pause before the game seems to realize it and I get the 'TUH DUHM' noise and the next quest or set of instructions. Yes I bet that was what the issue was here.

Never had this bug, I usually kill the white Stag straight away without waiting for Sindig to escape, but I have heard of others having similar bugs.

I once said no to Harkon and just walked out of there before he banished me.... let's just say that 5 hours later i realized the entire quest line became bugged. Thankfully i had a save from just before that.

Yeah you can get royally screwed by this one, as you cannot take that damn ring off. So happy I thought to do a hard save !
