Best Steward for Goldenhills
Goldenhills is a plantation outside Rorikstead (mod that is also available with AE)

Erik is a Nord in Rorikstead who is tired of living on a farm and wants to see the world. So I made him my companion, and then my steward of Goldenhills...just outside of Rorikstead.

Then I found out Erik is based off a real person who died from cancer 6 months before Skyrim released. Now I feel bad.

I have been using Marcurio, the mage for hire at the Bee & Barb.

I hire him for 500 gold as a follower, take him to Goldenhills, hire him as my Steward.

He's great. He's also a great protector. Powerful mage.

I also use Erik because there's a conflict between the farming creation and the Immersive Citizens mod that causes Goldenhills stewards not to stay at their post. Erik at least won't go far. Worth noting that you can dismiss and change your Goldenhills steward, unlike the Hearthfire homes where the choice is permanent.

Yes, what Halliwax said.

I have switched Stewards or even accidentally dismissed them. Hiring is easy. But I always use NPCs from the vanilla game and of course not NPCs that are related to other quests.

Yep, I use Erik because I also run Immersive Citizens, so any Steward just kinda walks off except for him. He technically doesn't stay at the Farm either, he kinda meanders around between it and Rorikstead though.

He was close enough to help defend against the Dragon that attacked my Farm though so he still gets some action in even if he is not on my adventure.

I haven't seen how you dismiss the Stewards. I wanted to dismiss him and take him adventuring with me so he could level up some. That and to hear his dialogue options.

You simply tell the Steward their services are no longer needed. Then if it's a follower like for example Marcurio, you simply ask them to follow you. Later when you're are done with them following you can simply rehire them as a Steward.

I use Eric as he say when you talk to him that he hates farming and dont want to be stuck in his village his entire life.

So for anyone else looking for this in the future; you can't dismiss your steward until the farm is fully upgraded. Once it is, then you'll have the option to dismiss your steward.

I was annoyed, because I saw that Erik had better stats in light armor than in heavy; so I made him a set of the Scout Leather armor. He wore it until I left and reloaded the cell, and now he is back in his garbage iron armor.

Is there a mod to stop NPC's from using their default armor; and is it compatible with the AE upgrade?

I wonder if that is a similar mechanic to the fact that whenever I leave Faendal and he is back at home, he wears whatever he had before until i get him to travel with me again.
I use Goldir, because otherwise he just sits in that family tomb, and that isn't healthy...
I have other stewards for my houses based on who the housecarl is, because they have to live together.
