If you've installed it to your data folder, and you have it activated, you go into game and get no AFT readme in your inventory, no tweak commands or tweak make followers powers in your powers menu, right?
Open Vortex and on the left hand side choose Settings
then up top choose the Mods tab.
The first line is Mod Staging folder.
Once you are there stop and watch this video Starting at the 6 minute 30 second mark. Simply follow Gopher's instructions. When you are done you should be able to install as normal.

Right, I got none of that. Seems just like I didn't get it installed right. Am I missing something there?
I know about Vortex, But I have it installed somewhere wrong and I have no clue how to fix it now.
I can't find it in my files to check, and searching for it only starts the program up.
Pretty positive it's in the wrong drive, but I just can't get to it to uninstall it so I can reinstall it into the correct drive.
I based my comment on your original post where you said;
"Vortex didn't work I think because it possibly is not installed on the same storage drive as my steam games"
You should at least double check and make sure that is properly setup.
Start the game, load a save, open the console commands and type:
Help "AFT Readme"
Make sure those quotes are actually used, it's part of the syntax.
If the console responds with an item and item ID, then AFT IS installed and active as that item is in the ESP. That would mean the mod is "on" but the scripts aren't working for whatever reason. In that case, i would recommend double checking your script file structure.
If you get no Item or id, then the mod is definitely not being read / loaded / enabled by the game.
This will not fix your issue, but it will help you better track down the problem.
For Manual install: its easy download the mod extract it and then Copy and Paste exact the same main Folders from inside the Mod to your Game. Most Mods start with Data Folder that you can put direct into your Main Game Folder all Scripts and so on that are inside will be Copy to the right place.
If a Mod dont start with the data Folder open always the data Folder in your Main Game and then Copy all Mod content inside it important here is only that you have open the Folder and real copy inside the data Folder.
The Problem with Manual installing Mods are that if there is an update or Change to the Mod later you will get Problems as you need to find and cancel all old Mod Data and that can become a pain to find. And even if you have a Problem with a Mod is Manual install real the worst way.
Okay, I’ve done that, it’s yelled at me that said folder needs to be ‘empty’ (I clicked the data folder where the mods are) but hasn’t wiped the line out so I think it accepted it?
Also, Vortex keeps yelling at me that Skyrim Script Extender 64 is not installed.
Is that required to use vortex mods? Or am I probably good?
Does it matter about needing an empty folder? Do I need to wipe out all of the mods I got from in-game Bethesda.net and only do Nexus mods?
I just downloaded Immersive Amazing Follower Tweaks instead, and it gave me the other required files.
Thank you guys, anyways, for your help. I probably would have just never touched the game again (I really like how convenient AFT is) if I had just tried solving it by myself.
