The murders in Windhelm
Hi, Did never get the blood on ice started but there had been a murder but no corpse in town. WEIRD! over 11 years old game and still BROKEN :( the commands in console do not help to even reset or start or end the quest. So how do I get it going or is it gone for good? Had other weird buggs in Skyrim Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition. with Delphine and blades she never spoke at the dragon resurrection first place etc. I hope Skyrim VI will be BETTER! :(

11 years old game? are you mental?

It's the most bug-ridden quest in the game, and yes, there's nothing you can really do about it, even with Console commands. Even the unofficial patch doesn't fix this buggy quest.

Just ignore it.

The original edition of Skyrim was released in 2011, not 11 years ago.
Corpse can disappear, fortunately it changes nothing, you still speak to the witnesses, then Jorlief, then follow the blood trail to Hjerim.

Well corpses go away if you load their cell and then leaves. If you dont intend to do this Q the first thing you do when entering windhelm stay away from that area like the plague.

The corpse disappearing doesn't change anything, since you don't interact with the corpse for this quest....

You talk to the guard, who tells you to talk to the witnesses.
You talk to the witnesses, then the guard again who tells you to talk to Jorlief.
You talk to Jorlief, and get permission to investigate.
You talk to the guard again, who tells you to talk to the priestess of arkay doing the autopsy.
You can talk to the priestess, but it's entirely optional.
You follow the blood trail to Hjerim, despite the quest never actually telling you this.
You ask Jorlief about Hjerim, he directs you to Tova Shattershield.
You talk to Tova and get the Key to Hjerim.
You investigate Hjerim and find the pamphlets, the strange amulet, and the altar behind the wardrobe.
You talk to Viola and Calixto.
You can then accuse Wuulfrad the undying or talk to him.
Etc

At no point do you need the corpse.

The quest never started at all. just babbling about murders and nothing more. and found another dead body from a male begger in the alley today O.o weird but that did not start quest either since the murder I am wanting to catch just kills women. :\ there were no guards saying to me to talk to a vitness since no dead body did exist.

It sounds like the quest didn't actually start yet.

They do talk about the murders before the quest starts. On your third visit to Windhelm (more or less), the guard and the witnesses will be in the graveyard. If they aren't there the quest has not started.

I think it my fourth visit to Windhelm that started it recently, but in the past it has been my twelfth visit or later, you just need to keep checking the graveyard/road to the north of the market area.

Ran into something like this in my current playthrough. No corpse. I think it spawned as it should have, but disappeared while I did a few weeks' worth of other stuff before coming back to Windhelm. There was no guard to talk to when I finally came back, but hanging around for several minutes (real time) eventually produced one. He was apparently off on patrol somewhere else and came wandering back eventually. I was able to complete the quest pretty much as intended from there. I run with USSEP, so perhaps that helped it along.

The mother took her life to the first killed victim but there was no victim to see :\ So I guess it is gone for good to ever get the quest. Edit: what is USSEP?

USSEP is the Unofficial Patch. See the pinned topic Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch (USSEP).

The patch is an absolute necessity, as it fixes literally thousands of bugs.

If there were not three people standing around the place where the body was supposed to be, then the quest is pretty much borked and likely can't be completed. You don't need Tova Shatter-Shield alive to finish, but it helps and opens a related side-quest. Completing the optional objective for the DB contract for Muiri in Markarth is what normally triggers her death and the key to Hjerim can be looted from her. But without the three people to interview, you can't progress the quest beyond the initial stage.
