More precise Thalmor
Beyond the mainstay that is the Church, the Imperial Cult was the missionary arm of the Nine Divines religion. Along with his eight Aedric counterparts, this order emphasized Tiber as a Divine hero-god not unalike fellow founding Emperor Reman Cyrodiil, the earthly hero-god of the Imperials. Indeed, the two Emperors were both worshipped as conquerer gods.
The Nords of Skyrim acknowledge Talos as Ysmir, Dragon of the North due the fact he was able to withstand the Greybeards' voices long enough to hear their prophecy. After this, many Nords could not look upon Talos without seeing a Dragon. Some even believed him to be a literal Dragon who shapeshifted into a human form. In the aspect of Ysmir, Talos is invoked as the patron of questing heroes.Nords often swear by Ysmir's beard, and his Dragon blood. Much like the Imperials, the Nords believe that upon Tiber Septim's death, their Eight Divines became Nine, with Talos serving as the lord of the Divines and the true god of man.
Talos was seen as Skyrim personified: an overall crucial figure to the culture, heritage, and tradition of the Nords. A proper Nordic burial often consisted of tributes to all Divines, with the tribute to Talos involving the offering of an item of sentiment associated with war at one of his many shrines. In the old animal totemic religion of the Nords, Talos is a Twilight God and his totem is that of the Dragonborn. The Nords blessed a great many things with this totem, as they believe of all the gods, it is he who will survive into the next cycle. The Nords see the culmination of the Oblivion Crisis much differently than the heartland Imperials. They believe it was Talos as the Dragonborn god who rose up and aided Martin Septim instead of Akatosh in the defeat of Mehrunes Dagon. These differing beliefs were known to cause serious tension between the Nords and The Church of the Imperials in the past with Nords strongly preferring their dragon Ysmir to the Imperial's Akatosh. On the contrary, oral traditions of more modern Nords who worship a pantheon much more akin to the Church maintain that it was indeed Akatosh that Martin ascended as to defeat Dagon.Despite its status as an Imperial order, the Cult of Tiber Septim also serves as a Nordic hero-cult that provides a strong counter-current to the dominant secularism of the Empire.
Or Dibella?...... apart from an excuse for orgies.
So essentially what you are telling Shor is he can go now right? Don't need him anymore?
I can read books for myself. What value (and I mean this metaphorically, Literally Not Materially). How are their lives Enriched through Talos that they were lacking with Shor?
No one is arguing about them for one. No one is waging war over them is another and Most importantly what do you have against orgies? I also am familiar with the Socra (♥♥♥♥, literally while correcting my spelling of Familiar I lost the word for the method that that Socreties guy came up, no I am not going to look it up) Method so answering a question with a question doesn't impress me. Answer or in truth or at least copy a few paragraphs like the person above you.
Every once in a while my brain hiccups and no matter how much I try something just don't work. Right now its this. Bugs the hell out of me. Only solution is to not think about it until it just clicks.
Talos was a mortal man who ascended to divinity through his achievements. Regardless of whether or not Talos/Tiber Septim was ever ACTUALLY a mortal man or not to begin with, it would seem that many see him as having been such.
This makes him a kind of de-facto “god of men/mortals” and is a lot more relatable than the alien and celestial beings of the Aedra and Daedra, and in effect this makes him more appealing to the common person.
You can see similar things in real-world pantheons/religions with deities that were once mortal and ascended to divinity.
it just seems to me like Talos was shoe horned in with an agenda by those who seem eager to fight now but somehow didn't feel up to it during the great war itself. The same ones who think once an Empire is established that no further work needed done.
Once they lost the big robot death machine, the provinces went back to rebelling and being discontent. So Why make a god out of someone who basicly cheated his way into an empire and then founded a dynasty that pretty much was not well versed in running one.
Their only competent leaders during this time were woman. Potema and Pelagulus' 3 wife. Maybe Pelagulus 3's Da since he managed to win against Potema but it took an Empire to do it.
For all that nords ♥♥♥♥♥ about Tradition this and Tradition that, I don't think Ulfric or Tullius are acting with honor. Where I come from the person being challanged chooses the terms of the fight and I am pretty sure Torygg didn't sign off on the Thuum. Tullius gives a speach at Helgen about how Ulfric shouldn't kill his king and attempt to usurp his throne when If I am remembering right....is exactly what Tiber Septim did. So....Yeah.....
All the effort to kill and Destroy but none to actually fix the underlying problems and issues.
Anyway the Twilight God aspect of Talos someone mentioned further up is interesting. That's something new. Seems like everyone Aedra, Daedra and all in between think its time for the Kalpa to end.
But I don't. As long as its up to me (the player) then we keep going with this one.
The war with Talos only exists because the Devs needed a reason for rebellion.....
And most of the divines offer a kind of bland portfolio....
Don't look for deep reasoning with the divines, most of the lore concerning them (as individuals not as a group) was purged just after Morrowind came out.
This reads better and is closer to the truth "Talos only exists because the Devs needed a reason for rebellion...."
I mean, I am just killing time here. I can start a new thread about how NOBODY would rig traps the way the do. I mean just halted Stream Camp. "Hey boss you really think we should have those burning lamps strung above us like that? We are butchering a massive creature leaking fat and guts all over the place. That;s just negligence, I mean there are straight up places where the Forwsworn stand in the middle of a lake of Oil ....I take it the Empire doesn't have an OSHA.
It is only in the fifth game that it became a reason for rebellion.
