Good Grass Mod That DOESNT Add Grass?
One of the very first mods I got my hands on back in the Oldrim days was Skyrim Floral Overhaul, and I’ve been using grass mods ever since.

Changed over to Veydosebrom alongside 3D Trees and Plants for a bit, and am now using Folkvangr alongside Origins of Forest.

But one thing I have consistently noticed is that if you use any mods that add or change up locations you’ll end up having to mess about with patches, utility mods, and the load order in order to get your grass mod to not wreak havoc with grass and plants clipping through things due to the fact that the mod was probably made and things were likely placed where they were based on where the vanilla grass and trees were.

Alternatively, I’m sure the grass/plant/tree mod maker had extra foliage appear in various locations due to the fact that in the vanilla game - no buildings, roads, etc were in these locations.

So I find myself wondering if there’s a mod out there someone can recommend that simply makes the vanilla grass/foliage/trees look better, but doesn’t go buckwild in adding more grass, plants, and trees to the gameworld in places it wasn’t already present in the vanilla game.

My first search on Nexus really only turned up ones that add more.

For the longest time this wasn’t a concern as I didn’t really use anything that altered or added to the gameworld, but recently I’ve been trying out mods like Enhanced Solitide and Enhanced Solitude Docks, Cities of the North - Falkreath, and others that change or add to these locations’ outdoor environments and I’m trying to find ways to resolve terrain, foliage, and rock clipping.

Fear I think it time for you to move on to the next step in modding with the Creation Kit.
Watch these 2 videos from Darkfox and Day_Sky. These 2 videos should cover pretty much everything you are looking to resolve.

After playing around a bit, the Creation Kit is pretty fun and can solve so many little pesky problems or eye sores.

As Corinze said. What you describe is pretty much the nature of grass mods. The only real fix for clipping that occurs when using other mods is hoping that someone has made a patch, or to do so yourself using the CK.

Thanks for the imput guys, I think I’ll just deal with it for the time being. I was just curious if I wasn’t seeing/finding a mod that simply makes the vanilla foliage look better rather than adding more.

Their are a few mods that change the grass instead of adding so much grass that it gives your GPU a self-choking fetish.

Cathedral Grass and Cathedral Plants (mostly about changing whats already in the game)

Also you can reduce the size and amount of grass in your game through the INI settings, easiest way is to use BethINI.

I've heard good things about Cathedral Grass, but I thought it was just another "add MOAR grass"mod. How does it stack up against Veydosebrom or Folkvangr in terms of quality and coverage?

I miss under stood you Fear, I thought you were trying to get rid of conflicting grass from multiple mods. I never tried the ones Life listed but the mod author goes great work.

I personally used this one with my 1660 super with no issues. Looks nice without the extra bloat.

Cathedral grass works best for me because it fits well within Skyrim's fantasy theme, while most other popular grass mods are about "here we got some over-detailed quality green looking grass that stands out all the time, hope it doesn't drink too much fps or clip into everything".

Also the Cathedral 3D remake of the common plants, almost makes me want to paint my thumb green.

Maybe I’ll have to give Cathedral’s grass a run in the near future. I do use their plant replacers and they are quite well done.

@Corinze

You’re good, you didn’t misunderstand me too much. My thing was hoping to possibly eliminate many of the grass/tree/plant clipping issues I get when using mods like Enhanced Solitude or others that add things into the gameworld via reverting to vanilla grass coverage (as opposed to using a grass mod that adds more grass/plants/trees). So I was actually seeking a mod that doesn’t ADD any foliage to the vanilla game - just enhances it and make it look better.
