Easiest way to change the armor/weapon of an npc?
Some amazing outfit/armor/weapon mods out there, but I dont want to wear all of them myself and I can't see an easy way to just apply them to NPCs.

Maybe I just want to put Ulfric and Tullius in tattered rags. I was hoping I wouldn't have to learn how to use the CK to do it though (unless it's easy).

Also would like to fight some of the player designs as NPC enemies or even followers, but I am guessing that is infinitely more difficult than changing an NPC's appearance.

I use the Utility version of this mod which has no requirements. Been using it for years.

Works as advertised with unlimited custom outfit changes as well as a list of the vanilla outfits and armors which of course can also be added to NPCs.

AFT is all you need for followers. You can set their outfits for cities, home, and standard (ie when you’re out adventuring).

Haven’t tried any of the recommended NPC outfit managers so I can’t speak on that.

Check the mod pages (or nexus in general) for SPID patches for armors/clothing you’re using. Not every armor has one but there are a decent amount, these will distribute the armor/weapons/clothing to specific NPCs or NPCs of a certain type (bandits, vampires, Imperial soldiers, etc).

Anyone used Project Proteus mod? It seems to be able to change weapons and armor without talking which would be useful for enemies who you can't talk to.

It also does some incredibly powerful stuff like import old save characters as npc followers, though I have no use for that right now personally.
Project Proteus is a tool which is quite a bit more powerful than a simple NPC Outfit Manager but more complicated. It is the easiest way to change values for armor or to apply enchantments to items which normally can not be enchanted but it does risk trivializing everything by being able to change said values at the simple casting of a spell/power. It is in the Cheats and God Items section for a good reason.

Project Proteus is a great tool. No question about it. I tend to recommend the simpler tools for newer mod users.
Proteus = a god
