Bug bringing the unusual gem to an appraiser.
I can't find anything about it online really, however I am encountering a bug bringing the unusual gem to an appraiser. I have joined the Thieves Guild, I have completed Goldenglow and everything. I have spoken to Maul, Vex, and Delvin, and not one of them will appraise the 3 gems I have. Any ideas why? Is this a new bug?

I have gone to Riften, talked to Maul, Delvin, and Vex, and none of them are willing to apprise it for me
If i remember good VEx must be the one that you are looking for.Have you change him in some way or the zone around Riften in some way with Mods?

Indeed I do have mods, however I don't believe any of them should be affecting this. I have tried turning the ones that may affect it off and still have nothing

You may just need to open the console and input:

setobjectivecompleted TGCrown 20 1

This sets it so that you have already spoken to Vex to identify them as the Stones of Barenziah

Thank you! I'll do this, I just have a few questions:
- Does this disable achivements? I have a mod that makes it so that mods don't ususally disable achivements, as I don't use them to cheat so I don't see it as 'cheating'
- Does this only progress the quest to where I have spoken to Vex and am now collecting the stones?
Thank you so much for your help!

No, it should not disable achievements.
Yes, it only sets the stage of the quest to just after talking to Vex and being told what the stones are. The next stage would be 30, where you have found all 24 and have to speak to Vex again.

I have done the command and everything is working okay. Thank you!

Just for the future, console commands never disable achievements, there is a warning but it's a false warning. I tried to disable achievements through them, i tried everything, nothing worked :P

For future reference, I've encountered this issue before if i did not become a "full member of the thieves guild."

After you complete the "debt collection" quest and meet brynjolf in the cistern, he'll tell you to "go get your armor" from Tonilia. The intro to mercer and the goldenglow job immediately starts in the same conversation, so most people miss the armor part and go straight to goldenglow.

HOWEVER! Until you actually get your armor from Tonilia, you will NOT see the dialogue from vex regarding the gems as you are NOT considered a "full member of the guild". You MUST get your set of armor first.

I was actually already into Goldenglow and onto Honingbrew and it still wasn't giving it to me for some reason? I just ended up using commands to make it work :/

Thank you! I'll use them when the game breaks rather than sitting there being annoyed in future! :P

But did you ever get your armor from tonalia? It doesn't matter how far you go through the TG questline. The only way to become a "full member" and get the dialogue from Vex is if you get your armor from tonalia. You can complete the entire TG questline and still not be considered a "full member" if you never acquired the armor.

You've got it working either way, just saying in case there is a next time :)

Just be very careful with console commands. While it can be used to advance some quests when they break, using console commands to do so can, in fact, break other parts of the quest.

It's always recommended that you load a previous save if possible and try the quest or whatever again before using console commands. CC should only be the last resort if you basically have nothing to lose.

If you do use console commands, i would recommend ONLY advancing the quest by 1 stage. NEVER skip quest stages at that will almost certainly cause issues.

For example: I wanted to test a mod that changes the "teleport when sleeping" aspect on solstheim. (Where you end up working at one of the stones). Advancing the quest via console commands would not work, i had to manually do the actual quest in order to test.
