How to enter Whiterun?

Hi. I'm playing Skyrim for the very first time now and I wanted to go to Whiterun for the story related quest, however main door is locked. Guards tried to catch me for "pickpocketing" on my very first visit there and I had to pay the fine. I pickpocketed some stuff before in different locations but I was never caught on act. And never in Whiterun. Main door says I need a key. Any way to get inside?

This guard is not there, only the one on the right side :(

It has happened to me sometimes, no guards are there, or only the one on the right. The one on the left unlocks the gate. You can wait an hour or travel away out of the area and return should put the guards in place.

Usually if you do a crime, you are taken to the Whiterun jail, even if you only have to pay a minor fine for a minor crime. Like punching a guard outside Whiterun, you get arrested but are immediately released inside Whiterun. That is another way to bypass the gate.

If you use the Live Another Life mod the gate is not locked as there are no dragons about for them to lock down the city. As if a dragon would try to enter through the gate lol.

But you were seen, it may have been a rabbit, a Fox, a Butterfly (not 100% on the Butterfly) and whomever, whatever saw you, reported you to the authorities.

What you need is mods.

Disclaimer: I am just telling you how it is. I a not a proponent of this system. In fact Many a time I have been victimized by the Skyrim Criminal System as I was walking along a road NOT worshipping Talos only to be assaulted by Thalmor whose superiors claimed I MURDERED (Technically I did but they started it...and like every day in every grade of school....guess who was not believed and blamed? Yep, ME. I get it. I just have that sense of being that makes people want to <blank> with me. Many a time I have stood before a Mirror and said. I hate that guy.

It looks like a nice and fun game but God, how it's bugged sometimes. I wish I knew why I had to pay the fine, there should be some kind of warning or whatever. I will try to wait near the gate and if that won't work, I will start a brawl there so I will go to prison. It might be very good solution. Thank you.

Is there any mod that will improve this crime system? At least show some icons or whatever.
I'm having a few mods to boost graphics and weather or inventory.

Yea had that too one time another time that guard died in a bandit raid (modded) luckily he had the key.

You might also like to get the unofficial skyrim special edition patch (USSEP). This will help fix a lot of bugs in the game.

That way you can keep getting achievements even though the game is modded.

regarding beeing seen while lockpicking/stealing, go crouching=sneaking and only lockpick/steal when the cursor looks like _._ and it doesnt resemble eye; i believe that should mean nor even rabbit or whatsoever notices you = so your crime shouldnt be known

no you don't need achievement enabler. Use skyrim engine fixes instead, it fixes bugs with the game engine and allows achievements to be active with mods.

First time ... pickpocketed in other places ... never caught in whiterun before ... first time ...

Oh believe me, I now robbed every house inside Whiterun :D Got achievement for opening 50 locks and pickpocketing 50 people.
