I used to play as a male back in the PS3 days, but eventually decided to try out a female character. Been playing only females ever since.
So I apply the same to marriage in games. Play as a female, marry a male. Nothing wrong here. It's not like I have any actual feelings for them, I just don't imagine my character to be a lesbian.
I think Alister in dragon age origins and carth onasi in kotor are the only time i went for a male love interest.
Well due to fallout 4's god awful male voice actor female is the only way to play without a headache or volume at zero
All Dovakiin since have been Bachelor/ Bachelorette's for life (even if they had a couple really good friends).
I like to RP my characters as ME, as if everything was real. I try to make the choices i would actually make in a given situation and even flesh out storylines in my head to justify certain "evil" actions. (Like how could i join the dark brotherhood or the thieve's guild).
And since i'm male IRL, i have to pick a male character in game.
-----
That said, if i have played a game multiple times and want to try something different (A new playstyle), then i create a mental image of a character in my mind and treat the game as if i'm watching a historical documentary / movie about somebody elses life. I make all decisions as that character would.
On more than one occasion, that character has been female. (I did an anti-magic female warrior in dragon age origins for example). When I play a game in this manner, i have no qualms about marrying a male character as it's not actually me doing it. I'm "watching a video" about somebody elses life, after all.
This.+1. But not knocking those who want to play as a female char when they are a male in RL. Or the other way. It's just not something I would do. My son plays a female at times and I never criticize him for it.
