I hope someone knows. A thread came up explaining how but the method does not work.

This works: https://old.reddit.com/r/skyrimmods/comments/b0n3ry/did_skyrim_se_just_get_an_update_my_skse_isnt/eifogvu/

I managed to fix this by doing this:

Open the Steam console by hitting Win+R and copy/pasting steam://nav/console into it and hitting enter
When the console is open, copy/paste download_depot 489830 489833 7531846925655934196 into it and hit enter
Go to (wherever your steam file is located)Steam\steamapps\content\app_489830\depot_489833 and copy/paste the SkyrimSE.exe file into your Skyrim directory, overwriting the one already in there.

This works and is so far simplest explanation to do this.

This worked great. Thanks Digitgigit. So how to stop Steam from updating it again after doing this?

set the game in steam to only update when i launch it, and be sure to run the game with skse64 launcher, any time you run the game with the steam launcher it updates again

I also suggest to keep a copy of the old .exe somewhere in case you launch the game through a mod manager or something (I just did that and it updated).

Oh, so there's no way to turn off automatic updates just for Skyrim SE? Ok, I'll do that. I already have a copy saved from the download. I just won't delete that for now.

I can think of one possible way not to autoupdate via Steam. In the downloads section you can set Steam to only autoupdate during certain time of the day. If you set this to unconventional time, like lets say 4 am, then it might work. Assuming you will not launch the game at that time.

I keep my PC powered on 24/7 so that wouldn't work. The best way right now is go to properties of the game -> Updates and set automatic updates to "Only update this game when I launch it".
I dunno why it cannot be disabled completely for single-player games. Some people just don't understand the concept of "if it works, don't update it".

Do you realize this thread is almost 3 years old? Not surprising that it's unavailable.

True, but in all honesty I'm still figuring this sorta stuff out, is there any way to get a version of Skyrim SE that works with SKSE64: V.2_00_20??

To be fair, it does give some insight into the Steam Forums Universe lore. What I mean is, if you look a bit back in the posts made here and their profiles, you'll realise that Obi-Wan himself was BANNED! :dos2skull:

I can't wait to unravel other mysteries of the SFU: was Gordon Freeman secretly a conspiracy-theory-youtuber who posted xenophobic rants in the early days of YouTube, but any trace of his old videos has been erased through a personal vendetta by Susan Wojckscsztrynikiejøæåy?

Was Lara Croft originally a ti**y-streamer on Twitch?

Is God Coward one of them Illuminati-reptilians from N00biru?

There is. Just extract the files you have when you made a backup of the game before it got updated. Replace the older files and use SKSE loader to launch the game.

Nice necro btw.

No.

I dunno what ti**y is but I'd say no. If meant to write "titty streamer", then the answer is definitely a no because Twitch (or any streaming service) didn't exist when Lara Croft came out.

I'm pretty sure that would be a nope as well.

You're welcome.
