Merged plugins and creation kit
When plugins are merged are you able to edit the esp's in CK individually or edit them as a one mod or not at all without risk of breaking?

A merged plugin is just that, all of the plugins' records stripped out and tied back together in one plugin. It acts just like one plugin.

It is entirely possible to edit this plugin just as you would edit any other plugin. It might not be recommended, though, if you don't know what you're doing, and of course you'll have to redo your work every time you have to rebuild the merge.

So it would likely be more sustainable to edit the mods themselves before merging them.

Note however, unless you have Creation Kit Fixes, the Creation Kit will automatically generate facegen for all added characters when you try to save. This means that saving a plugin that has any custom followers will overwrite their (often custom generated) facegen.
So, I would recommend using xEdit for that instead. Or installing CK Fixes.
