Need help with starting Grimsever returns quest
Ok I've been having trouble getting this quest to work right, for some reason Mjoll will talk about Grimsever, but thats it no further dialouge to start this quest.
I've tried almost everything on the internet I can find and YES I've DISABLED all mods that would possibly alter her or the quest.
I've tried disabling and enabling her
reseting AI
adding grimsever into my inventory (it did not spawn in dwarven dungeon)
I've made sure that I'm on good terms with her, she does say "Good to see you again, friend"
I've even leveled up since thats the most common fix for this quest and still it didn't work.
I'm thinking that maybe marrying her will help fix, but I'm not sure any help would be appreciated.

Ok, first off, by disabling mods midplay you've just slit your save's wrists and you need to simply delete any save made after trying that foolishness.

Indeed. Disabling a mod midplay won't properly fix any problem you have but will absolutely ruin a save.

Use your oldest cleanest save and these commands:

setstage FreeformRiften09 20
player.additem 00053379
setstage FreeformRiften09 30
I have made a save point before I disabled mods just in case and of course before trying console commands. I mentioned disabled mods so I wouldn't get a lot of replies suggesting to disable any mods.

Thanks for the suggestion, but the thing is that I've tried the solutions that I've mentioned above and what you suggest with the mods enabled and disabled. When I try to setstage nothing shows up in my journal and even with grimsever in my inventory she doesn't react.

A note: That quest requires high disposition so either Mjoll has to already like you or you need to help people around town until she does. You might try doing a random quest or two in Riften and trying her again.

You need to use those three commands in that order precisely. It's also a misc. quest, it doesn't get it's own quest line in the journal you have to look under misc.

Even if Mjoll is bugged out, it shouldn't change how setstage works.

It's possible I am Thane of Riften though so perhaps I need to do more. I believe I've done all the quest in Riften so I guess I'll have to look at the wiki to see if I'm missing something. Does completing bounties affect her opinion of you?

yeah radiant quests should count just the same, but if you're Thane I don't think there's much you SHOULD need to do. Mjoll is probably just bugged out.

Why do you want this quest so bad anyway? To make Mjoll a follower/wife?

setstage FreeformRiften09 20
player.additem 00053379
setstage FreeformRiften09 30
setstage FreeformRiften09 200
player.removeitem 00053379

That should basically complete the quest and get Grimsever out of your inventory, but Mjoll may not recognize you completed her quest. She won't take Grimsever from you and you probably can't give it to her (since it's a quest item).

There's a reason we try to avoid needed long strings of commands to fix stuff--the bigger the fix the less likely it'll work right.

Nah it's just that I'm trying to figure out why it's not triggering at this point and its bothering me. I'm also trying to get mjoll to join the blades as well.
I'll try the console commands again and see what happens thanks for the suggestions.

Reload a save made prior to the console commands you've already done, and after you've spoken to her initially about Riften, the TG, Aerin saving her life (the Grimsever initial topic), and before you disabled any mods.

Open the console and click on her and enter
setrelationshiprank player 3

At this point you should get her Follow Me option, and within 24 game hours you should get the "What happened to your blade, Grimsever?" topic.

I have to use this all the time, because no matter what I do around Riften - give to both beggars, make Sapphire forgive Shadr's debt, help Illia in Darklight Tower, kill the dragon at Lost Tongue Overlook, take the lexicon, clean up the Ratway - her disposition doesn't always bump when it should. I think it may also be tied to player level, like you can be too high for the quest/option for some reason. I've hit town at level 30-something and no problem, but if I hit town at 60+, it's like she's locked out.

As an aside, do you have the Unofficial Patch?
Jouchebag Sep 30, 2018 @ 7:47am
It's more than a little sad that we have to find console solutions so often, but I do get the feeling the USSEP should solve whatever is up with Mjoll's disposition because I've never ran into that problem but I always use the patch.

This is why we all have this love/hate relationship with Bethesda RPGs.

Do you have another Misc. quest to get loot for someone? You can only have a couple of those at a time.
DrNewcenstein Sep 30, 2018 @ 10:16am
I always have:
Return the Golden Claw (no, sorry, it's mine now)
Investigate the Boethia Cultist (been there, done that, didn't clear)
Find 5 Ice Wraith Teeth (brought them with me, already done, thanks)
Speak with the leader of the Donghard (not quite there yet)
Visit the museum in Dawnstar (booooring!)
Speak with the leader of the Companions (meh)
Talk to Gerdur in Reeferwood (uh, no, I already sent them aid)
and some other misc quests.

Hit her with the relationship rank console command and be done with it.
