What is with the random difficulty spikes???
You go into a cave, nothing is a problem and all of a sudden ONE enemy is MULTIPLE times stronger than everything else. It is actually absurd. Like you go from 2~3 shotting enemies to a guy that needs over 30 hits to kill. Not only that, he just cinematic kill shot me when I was at 70% hp. Not even exaggerating. Wtf how is that even fair?

I have heard talk about this 'dark souls esque combat mod' before, but i have not found it on the nexus. I would be thankfull if you can provide the name of the mod.

I don't know what mod people are referring to, but if you're open to trying out some combat mods. I find a combination of Wildcat with full player stun turned on in the options + Mortal Enemies to be really nice. There's also a fair few folks who really like TK dodge (believe you need FNIS with it). I find it unnecessary as long as you have Mortal Enemies though which enforces attack commitment on both the player and the NPCs. Mix those with some enemies mods like Advanced Adversary Encounters, High Level Enemies, or both and you should find some challenge. Wildcat also let's you adjust the incoming/outgoing damage multipliers that the difficulties are set to.

Oh and grab Immersive HUD to turn off the crosshair, that gives archery/magic a fun little feel too.

Mortal enemies is the one. Fine tuned hit boxes and turn rates make a huge different in the feel of combat. No more silly instadeath headbutts by npcs when you aren't reasonably right in front of them. Just keep in mind it works both ways...

I managed to escape out being cinematically killed by accidently tapping the switch to third person button in a panic. I think it would be tough to pull off intentionally but it's worth noting if you happen to have the skill.
Smilodon is my go to combat mod. Had to pull the damage plugin though because Master turned into whoever hits first, wins. Got real messy once I taught a couple followers some of the AoE spells out of Apocalypse. It added just enough difficulty without going overboard. Might try Wildcat out though if I ever rebuild my list, it looks more in-depth but not sure I want to go that route.

If enemies are tearing you up that bad though, you need to overhaul your gear. You absolutely have to keep current with what the enemies you're facing are wearing, and that doesn't include tossing in a few enchants to buff your resistances. Even on Adept, you will find certain encounters difficult without being properly prepared.

Violens = love. No enemy killmoves and restricting self ones to last enemy makes combat much better. You don't get sucked into that stupid animation while enemies are moving around you and getting ready to beat you into the ground.
I had that happen once when we were these mines, my whole party was wrecking those goblins and then this huge boss which was way outleveled came out of nowhere. We tried running it wound up killing our wizard and it took forever for his to respawn. :Stab:

Look up information on UESP, there is plenty about level ranges for encounter zones (mostly dungeons etc) and how enemy scaling works. The short version of the latter is that eventually as you level up you "unlock" the next teir of enemy levels. Those Bandits turn into Bandit Thugs or whatever and are level 7 instead of level 1 (or whatever the numbers are).

I just left god mode on for the rest of this dungeon. It got to the point where there were groups of "boss" standard enemies. The last guy took 40 (!) power attacks to kill. Yes I really counted.

So leave the area, go level up, and come back later? Jesus Christ dude, use that gap between your ears and think of a solution besides "GOTTA CHEAT GAME IS BS".
While the core combat of Skyrim isn't too complex, people often state that the game is easier than it actually is. There are jumps in difficulty as you see higher level enemies, usually as the animals go to Sabercats or Bears, or Trolls, and as the people go to higher levels with two-handed weapons or spellcasters.

There's a lot you can do to equalize the playing field though. Getting a follower helps, as does even a Flame Atronach, and then there's poison. Paralysis poison for ranged enemies and Slow poison for melee characters can make all the difference. Getting stagger perks for ranged characters helps too: Power Shot for archers and Impact(with Augmented elements) for spellcasters.

Generally speaking, you want to pump health at level ups. It's okay to put the first 10 levels or so into stamina or magicka, depending on your character type, but after that the next 30 levels or so should really go into health.

Like I'm on Adept... and this bandit is literally unkillable. A basic attack does more than 50% of my hp without a kill move. This game does NOT have good enough combat to justify these damage numbers. If Skyrim had Dark Souls combat... it'd be fine. But this glorified Minecraft style block and swing combat makes this kind of damage purely artificial difficulty.

I'll look into modding the insta kills out.
Difficulty Player Damage Dealt /Player Damage Taken
Novice x2// x0.5
Apprentice x1.5/ x0.75
Adept x1/ x1
Expert x0.75/ x1.5
Master x0.5/ x2
Legendary x0.25/ x3

Ya, what you need is a level map. What level are you and what dungeon/cave/mine are you in? What is your player level and primary weapon/armor skill at?
yea it all depends on what your armor and damage output is. ♥♥♥♥♥♥ armor plus crappy weapon = difficult fight. I know this is clear but there are many other factors along these lines that will affect how much damage you take. I mainly focus on upgrading the armor perk that coinsides with the armor im using (light/heavy) this allows me to get great defense very quickly instead of trying to upgrade everything equally.
