Power attack or normal attack for DPS?
Is it better to spam power or normal attacks to get the most DPS? I know power attacks can break blocks and such, but is there any reason to use them apart from for that?

Don't spam the power attacks too much otherwise depending on how much stamina you have, it'll drain fast. Just balance it out, power attack to stagger them and hit them with normal attacks then stagger them again when your stamina regains abit

They do double damage; whether that is worth it depends entirely on the situation of the battle in question AND your stamina level / recovery.

Sometimes I use power attacks; other times I save my stamina for bashing, sprinting, or dodging. (TK Dodge).

You really are intent on sucking the soul and enjoyment out of this game, aren't you? Might I suggest ditching it completely and playing Hearthstone instead, as you only seem to see the world as numbers.

I swear, every discussion i make someone comes along and just doesn't see the point of what i'm saying. I like to be as efficient as possible. If i spam light attacks, but could be doing more damage with power attacks there for waisting less HP potions, i want to do that.

That's because Skyrim IS NOT about numbers or efficiency; that is one of the reasons that a lot of the data is hidden to the player.

Here's a clue, spam light attacks and record how long it takes, then use power attacks and record how long that takes, then mix it up and record how long that takes. Look at the result and go with what was most "efficient". Better yet just summon monsters to do the fighting for you so you don't have to waste any time at all.

Just play the way you want to man, don't worry about efficiency. Just play it man, don't think about which is stronger, whatever gets the job done

It depends on each enemy... if you go against a troll the troll is pretty fast with attacks and never blocks.. its just constant attacks.... so you would be better off with slashing away at it....but if you go against a sword and shield dude he blocks allot so that would warrant heavy attacks and swift slashes if you can pull it off without getting hit by his parry or block attacks... the same goes for every other kind of enemy... they all act different depending on their weapons... watch and learn how they use each weapon and remember it... its as simple as that really.

It's not all about DPS, as it is with most games. It's more about using the most effective attacks for the current situation. That changes constantly before and during combat. If you are intent on just spamming the same thing over and over because it "deals the most damage" then you are sort of missing the point of the combat in Skyrim. It's meant to be dynamic, not just a numbers game.

That said, spamming Power Attacks is pointless as you will just run out of Stamina, leaving yourself open to all manner of buggery. Stamina is the life-blood of combat. Conserve it. Use it wisely. Besides, the sole reason for Power Attacks is to break blocks and/or stagger, while dealing some damage.

It's not an efficient way of fighting at all.

You need to combine the two types of attacks (or more, depending on your build), to attack effectively without gimping yourself too much. This varies on the enemy, number of enemies and your positioning, obviously.

Don't be concerned with efficiency, or you kill the game. You can be "efficient" and suck out the soul, and any difficulty, from the game or you can just organically play it and maybe enjoy yourself. If you find enjoyment more from spreadsheets than gaming, then may I suggest you play an MMO and try to get to the cutting edge of end game raiding? Really tweak out for that 1% more DPS.

The most efficient way to fight is generally a loop of:
- approach enemy and open with a shield bash to stagger them
- start making normal attacks at the staggered enemy
- time an animation cancel such that your power attack hits them after a normal attack and just after the enemy fully recovers from their stagger
- if the power attack staggered them then repeat the process with more normal attacks
- if the enemy isn't staggered then back off to bait an attack from them and treat the recovery frames like a stagger
- if the enemy is in a neutral animation then repeat from the first step and approach with a shield bash to stagger

The best dps is dual wielding swords and using the fully perk upgraded power attacks.
Doctor Pilk 20/abr./2018 às 10:29
it can really depend on your weapons and the enemy you are facing, perks also matter A LOT. to begin with at the start only use power attacks to break blocks but as you get perks and different equipment feel free to mix them into regular combat with simultanious movement, (such as stepping backwards power attacks, or decapitaions and other things)
