UNP vs CBBE?
Trying to find the most "immersive" body changer. Which is more compatible with other mods, which has more options, easier to use, preferred, etc. Just picked up SSE, this is the first time I've owned ES5 on PC and the first time I've modded anything so my knowledge is very limited on the subject. Thanks in advance.
P.S. What load order to use with UNP/CBBE and any other mods that affect appearance. (companions, eyes, face, etc.) and do these mods affect npc/companion presets?

CBBE with bodyslide. You can download presets or customize the bodies yourself using Bodyslide. Not sure about the load order. NMM does it for me.

Okay, that's what I was leaning towards. Just wanted to hear from someone else if they preferred UNP for some reason.

I like UNP personally; CBBE seems to be ... umm; overly generious in bra size in my opinion and I don't like wincing in sympathetic pain whenever my character runs or jumps.

is the size adjustable? I might just have to try both, but was hoping to avoid that convoluted process

At least with UNP the presets and weight sliders adjusts bra size.

Both have a great deal of options and support. CBBE if you like more and better endowed womem, UNP for a less well endowed and curvy body. These are body replacers, and will not show up in your load order. Make sure that you read the description pages fully for all requirements. Personally, I have UNP installed, as I find it to be more natural, but I would say that opinion is divided approximately evenly. Just pick the body you prefer.

Not sure how CBBE actually handles it; but if it matters I do know that UNP has a vanilla clothes/armor replacer and I don't think CBBE does (could be wrong though). ... Fair warning though; the "full length clothing" is wonky and hasn't been fixed yet.

And if you want larger breasts than UNP gives you there is UNPB.

It has one now called "CBBE Spice Gear Collection SE w Bodyslide" and "CBBE Minidresses Collection SE w Bodyslide" to replace clothes, they both support physics too.

So no vanilla replacers yet?

They replace all vanilla female armor and clothes with skimpier versions if that's what you mean.

No; but thanks for clarifying that. :steammocking:

These are replacers. I would presume that they are based upon Tiwa44's Spice mods for UNP - just adapted to CBBE.

Fair enough; but what the UNP replacers that I mentioned do is keep the look and feel of the vanilla armors; but reshapes them to the UNP body.

WIth regards to bodies for unique NPCs, it's typically only the faces that are unique and they use a body preset, which affects all NPCs globally. Some have unique bodies (can't recall which, to be honest) but again, it's usually from a preset. Hence why some Follower mod will have requirements for CBBE/UNP or other presets people have made.

The only way you can make NPCs "truly" unique, is to go into the Creation Kit and fully-customise them individually in collaboration with BodySlide and OutfitStudio.

This is mainly due to the way that Skyrim generates bodies. It uses a singular body frame, that has a weight slider of 0-100 (thin-to-fat, for instance). Then the NPC will have a number related to somewhere along that slider. One NPC will have 25 weight, another might have 66, and so on.

To edit NPCs, you need to go into the CK itself and change them there. You can alter NPC weights in-game, but it creates issues with gaps at the neck, hands and feet. Sometimes it makes their faces grey, or screws with the hair colours. CK is the only sure-fire way to change appearances.

Something I'm actually looking into fairly soon.

You can still make some vast changes simply by using BodySlide. I, myself, have made the difference in 0-100 far more noticeable and given the 100 weight plenty more meat on it's bones. And it shows. Some of the NPCs are now quite chunky, while others are slim.

As an example, this is how Saadia looks now, with my weight changes:

She is considerably larger than her original size, as seen here:

EDIT: Bah, so used to using formatting from other sites. Forgot Steam doesn't let you do sod all lol. Also, links are safe. Top two are just my DA page, and the bottom is from the Skyrim Wikia.

I use CBBE. Back when I was playing on regular Skyrim I tried both. Found CBBE better for me and how I work. Not perfect, but better.

Now that I am on Skyrm SE I have simply stayed with CBBE because its easier to not learn a new tool, its still good at what it does and the numbers show plenty of people agree. While the last point is of secondary importance, I appreciate the support that (usually) comes with more popular mods (peer and/or dev).

Now, maybe UNP as superceded CBBE on Special Edition, but I wouldn't mind about that. The difference is not likely to be miracles so it's not a priority for me to change. So, for convenience as much as effectiveness....

CBBE.
