Can't gift Alesan if you adopt him

I've run into a bug where if you adopt Alesan, you can't gift him anything. Apparently he has too much on him but you can't pickpocket him and the only answer i found online was to use a mod which I don't want to use mods. I would like to gift him some new clothes, a dagger of harvesting (lol), you know, like his sister has. She's got a dwarven dagger, new clothes, dolls, food. Her chest is full of knick knacks but his remains empty...

If you adopt him, Alesan may sometimes not be able to receive gifts.
- This bug is fixed by version 2.0.2 of the Unofficial Hearthfire Patch."

All previous patch version have been merged and are included in the present Patch.

Please read the PINNED TOPIC in this forum regarding the Unofficial Patch - since it fixes literally THOUSANDS of bugs, if you wish to avoid the above type issue (and possibly even more serious game breaking ones) you must install it.

If you choose not to, then we cannot help you with related problems.

There are console that allow you to open up his inventory and remove the extra junk, same as Sophie from WindHelm... But it's been a while so I've forgotten what they are...
