Help me escape from Helgen!

Guys help! I need some help to make it out of Helgen. I am a perfectionist in playing game and will delete my save games and restart a new one from Helgen whenever I am not satisfied with my performance (e.g. My character dies or meets some bugs). Generally speaking this is not a problem for me since I can practice doing better the next game and this is under my control.

But currently I am stuck with the first quest in Helgen. Here is my problem: when my character enters the Helgen Keep with Ralof, the sneak skill of my character will level up to 16 from 15, even if I never try to squat down. It seems that after the update your character will probably have a free experience in sneaking up when entering the keep. More than that, once this occurs, the character will level up very quickly in the keep. For example, by 2 hits he will jump to level 2 and become at level 3 when escaping from Helgen. This sounds great but the problem is that Hod in Riverwood will not show up when you get there. I am pretty sure these 2 problems are related. When you meet the sneaking leveling up issue, there will be something wrong with Hod later. I don't like Hod's issue so I restart new games again and again. But the sneaking-level up issue keep occurring (It rarely did before the latest update).

I have wasted more than one month on the Helgen scenario but cannot stopping it. Unlike my "no death run" style, this bug is out of my control and it seems hard to avoid. My perfectionism and this Helgen glitch make me mad and ruined my game experience. I am even thinking about deleting the game forever to get rid of this feeling. Any ideas to avoid the Helgen issue?

There are mods to bypass Helgen all together. Look at Nexus mods. If you are leveling up so fast look at your settings, ADEPT is pretty easy, MASTER and up are slower to level up.

Simply don't level up before you get to riverwood, you still have to select level up, unless you are using a mod that does it for you...

I will have a try. Do you also meet the same problem? I mean getting exp in sneaking whenever you enter the Helgen keep for the first time?

Thanks for your answer. I forgot to mention that I never use any mod and I want to experience the Helgen scenario without bug, not bypassing it.

The only way to get sneak experience besides skill books and trainers, is if you are actually sneaking and doing sneak attacks, which again require you to first sneak.

Like was mentioned, you do not NEED to level up until you want to. Just keep going. I usually wait to level up until I buy Lakewood Manor. By then I am about level 10 or so.

Plus, try an Alternate start mod.

Heal over Time is my guess. This is an odd one I haven't met someone who can't get pass Helgen. As others pointed out you don't need to sneak and even if you do level up isn't required. A fun way to challenge your self is to remain level 1 and try to get through the games main quest. It is aggravating but will make you act more like a real person would as you have to out think the game instead of just bullying your way through.

By Hot, I think they mean Hod.
The way to fix that guy it to break into his house, press e while looking at him, then exit as fast as possible, he should then pop outside.

I've run into something similar with the auto level up at start on a new character. After some google searches it appears to be a rare odd vanilla bug, specifically to do with Nord characters in particular.

The fix for me was to just make sure I fully exit the game (all the way to desktop) and restart the game fresh before I start a new character. If you are doing a restart don't just exit to the main menu and then jump right into a new game.

I make sure to always do this now as the game seems to have a nasty habit in general of not fully clearing game info in between saves (also see the double perk bug). Probably Nords in particular as they are the default race selection in character creation, so the game isn't getting a chance to clear the data from you changing race either.

Not sure about that particular bug affecting anything else in the game though or meeting NPC's.

If nothing else, add a mod to lower your XP gained.

Yes, this has happened to me way back in the early days. And yes, it tended to be only with nords.

Are you using mods? This sounds like some kind of leveling mod conflict. You should never get sneak xp unless you're actually crouched/sneaking, and you definitely shouldn't be leveling up a melee skill in 2 hits.

I'm, usually level 4 by the time I leave the caverns, this is not an issue for me though.

But as I said simply don't select the level up and you will be level 1 when you leave, and then you can meet this Hod.
