Enhanced crossbows?

Hi, how to obtain the Enhanced Dragonbone Crossbow? The UESP wiki says they are sold by Fihada in Solitude but I've not seen him selling any enhanced crossbows. Does it need to be unlocked by doing Fort Dawnguard quests?

Having tiers of crossbows, like every other weapon type in the game, with slightly different damage (like a base of 1 point per tier) is overpowered now? Anything to complain about the CC I guess.

To answer the OP, theu won't show up until you're higher level, just like most other dragonbone tier gear.

I have the CC bundle and have yet to see any arrow type that is insta-kill. Unless you're fighting a low-level bandit well below your character/skill level, but that's the same as in vanilla too.

I am ok with CC content since it's all optional. But the fact that you can quite literally not give a ♥♥♥♥ about choosing Dawnguard side just because you can get even better crossbows from CC.. You can't get all cool stuff from vampires and upgraded crossbows at the same time in vanilla. You have to choose one or another. But it seems that you can get both in CC content. That's really bad if that's the case.

Can anyone confirm that you can't get upgraded crossbow without doing Dawnguard quests in AE with CC content?

You can get some slightly better crossbows, and some slightly worse. Again, as I stated, they are tiered, just like other weapons, with a point or less base damage between them. It's very minor and nowhere near overpowered like the person I quoted implied.

That said, you CANNOT gain the ability to craft any bolts without joining the Dawnguard, and both crossbows and bolts are extremely rare from merchants (I'm almost level 30 and have seen bolts and crossbows on a merchant a total of 2 times). So even if you got your hands on a crossbow, you won't have any ammo unless you join the Dawnguard, and it'll be near useless.

Edit: You also can't craft any crossbows out of the gate. You need to have found one of the type you want to craft first (orcish crossbow, for example. And again, very rare), AND have the appropriate smithing perk. So you can't just magically manifest them.

There is the Soul Stealer Arrows which can be obtained after a somewhat lengthy quest on Solstheim that can kill low-to-mid level enemies instantly to trap their souls. They are resource intensive enough that one could consider them a bundle of arrows which can be fired all at once. It is definitely not an item type that can be crafted early on to trivialize everything that comes one's way.

I found DAEDRIC crossbow righ inside of showcase in some shop of Solitude.. I think that was on 35+ lvl.

You're level 35+, that's not overpowered... And it's useless without bolts.

Most of the things found in the Arcane Archer creation would not count as 'over-powered' by simple virtue of random enemy characters being able to access them as well.
Explosive arrows hardly feel like an instant win button when one is being pelted on all sides by them in certain bandit encampments.
Some people make the mistake of thinking that high damage options for higher levels means that everything will become much easier all around.

Agree. And none of it is an "insta-kill" as the poster said, unless your skill is high and you're attacking an enemy with low health, exactly like all of the vanilla options.

There was a quest to get some of the crossbows in a specific location (a hut as I recall), which has a special forge to craft various crossbows.

Not done it yet in since I got AE bundle, so not sure how to start that quest yet.
