Alvor's and Faendel's house access issues

Two problems in a new playthrough:

1. Alvor never gave me his house keys, even though I came with his nephew, and he already welcomed me.

Is there any way to fix this?

2. As a result, I am staying at Faendel's, after I finished his quest and made him a Follower. However, his house is flagged as locked, even though I took his keys. Yet, the game does allow me to open his house without picking the locks.

What is going on?

Faendal locks his door at night like always, you have to use his key to unlock it.
Alvor was being kind and letting you stay, that doesn't mean he gives you free rein to enter
at anytime.

I suggest these two mods to get in friends houses without bringing lockpicks,
Simply Knock[www.nexusmods.com]
Simply Knock SKSE DLL[www.nexusmods.com]
The second one is required for Simply Knock to work with 1.6 onwards.

No, that is how it is supposed to work in the game, but some see it as annoying.
That is why I use Simply Knock, makes it so I can lore friendly enter friends homes for a visit.

But Alvor is supposed to give me his key according to all sources I read online; and he didn't when I fulfilled all the preconditions.

I see no mention of it on UESP, so maybe it is supposed to, or maybe it is a glitch with how he gives you starting gear.
Either way, Simply Knock is setup where you have a chance of them answering, with friends always answering.

Fair warning about the Simply Knock mod. Last time I downloaded it it crashed my game everytime the game loads. Just go through the comment sections of that mod to find the fix.

Hazak gave the fix in the same post as the mod itself - you need the SKSE DLL from the second link.

There's also Simpler Knock which doesn't require SKSE and is therefore version independent, i haven't used either mod an awful lot so i can't compare but afaik this works well: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/31585

Okay, I think I may be wrong here. I see others claiming on Reddit and elsewhere that you do not get the key - and even continued access - to Alvor's house. Perhaps my earlier sources were wrong. Either way, I guess it ultimately doesn't matter, since I don't have a reason to go back ever again.

Make sure Simply Knock does NOT override PapyrusUtils or the DLL, Simply Knock
originally did not need those and had a version of PapyrusUtils, but it is terribly outdated
and would crash your game otherwise.

@Lampros - if you have any trouble when installing Simply knock with PAPYRUSUTIL I made a video that might help you out.
